Contrast has changed. I can't click on anything like to change it back.

So my mother changed something my clicking, can't remember what she said. My dad and I are stumped because when I found themes there were options like ;'basic', 'brightness 1' 'brightness 2' etc. I was unable to click anything. And since this is a work computer, the name of the college is printed on instead of the make of computer, so Im sorry If this is the wrong computer.

A work puter why not ask WORK "IT" department to fix it? yah?

oops no real PC name, ?
no OS stated, why post ever and not state XP,Vista.,w7/8/10.???
EliteBook 6930p
this is a CCFL monitor , so we go to bios first
and play with the function keys for brightness.
if those work ok then hardware is ok
if not OK the CCFL is bad. (they do go dim or die easy)
easy no?
if BIOS brightness works then we attack windows.
there are vast ways to mess up windows, endless, really.
guessing can take a very very long time.
reload windows>?
or do the MS reset.
for WINDOWS to work the the HP driver must be loaded.
first and called.
HP Quick launch button driver is missing
if this is missing or messed up the brightness keys are going to fail.
sorry Microsoft does not load that, only HP can.
you can.
i have a close 8540w to yours.
yours had vista or w7 new. does it still have that?
or did you do the free w10 update or worse fresh load windows.
history matters. for sure. here, and what is there and not said,

issues, many.
HP used AMD and intel GPU there. so must match up.
so we load that first. then see, this below.
the input devices, see that? driver keyboard mouse.
see quick launch?>
that must match you unstated OS and load. ok
https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-elitebook-6930p-notebook-pc/3688868

ok end drivers, you can load them from there, easy

now WINDOZ, endless.
MS says do this.
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-system/how-to-restore-default-settings-in-windows-7/12b83b26-1048-e011-90b6-1cc1de79d2e2

HP has other ways, ask them at HP, not here we are not HP

or cheery pick them, omg many places
like you said, someone played in the screen
display settings or personalize page, well get put it back.
there are setting for persons with poor vision, so go there and put it back to normal.

try to know only one word by you helps me.
Contrast.
we can go to vast places in any PC just with 1 word
why not elaborate any SYMPTOMS fully.
then answers came 10x better.
start with what operating system is on this PC

if all this sounds hard, it is.
so hit F11 key a power up time and restore windows to new.
or restore to a restore point set before. if ever.
F11 is the HP restore, engine, if its dead the PC has been

even on windows 10 this works (call ease of access)
press ALT + left Shift + Print Screen

Look at the F keys at the top of the keyboard for a marking that looks like a half-sun. (You may see two adjacent mirror-image markings for contrast up and contrast down). Find the "Fn" key (usually next to the Windows or Alt keys). Hold this down, then press the F key with the contrast icon.

Actually, the tech was right. It is not uncommon for optical drives to go out just like that. Since you've tried the steps listed above and your computer still cannot see your optical drive, then the drive must be replaced.

Unable to reduce brightness windows7 ultimate hp1670

laptop ot desktop monitor ?

Adjust your monitor's brightness and contrast

You can adjust the brightness and contrast of your monitor to improve the readability of text and to make digital pictures appear more like they'll look when printed.

To improve the results when adjusting the brightness and contrast settings for your display, use Display Color Calibration. (Display Color Calibration helps you adjust these color settings and others.)

The way you adjust brightness and contrast varies and depends on your specific display.

Brightness and contrast buttons on the front of the monitor.

Some monitors have brightness and contrast controls on the front and use the standard symbols shown in the following image.

Brightness and contrast symbols

On-screen menu. You can change the brightness and contrast settings for some displays by using an on-screen menu, and then setting the brightness and contrast in the resulting menu. Many times, you can view the on-screen menu by pressing a button-possibly labeled Menu-on the front of the monitor.

Laptop display. Laptop displays don't have brightness or contrast buttons on the front.

For a majority of laptops, there isn't a control for setting the contrast.

However, you can set the brightness of many laptops by pressing and holding the Fn key, and then pressing a function key to decrease brightness ( ) or increase brightness ( ).

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Calibrate-your-display#

When using Display Color Calibration on a laptop, set the display to the maximum brightness setting.

Adjusting brightness automatically using adaptive brightness

Adaptive brightness is a feature in Windows that uses a light sensor to automatically adjust the display brightness to match the lighting conditions in your computer's surroundings.

To use adaptive brightness, you must have light sensors installed and enabled on your computer.

To determine if your laptop or computer monitor supports adaptive brightness, look for the Enable adaptive brightness setting in Power Options (mentioned in the following procedure) or check the information that came with your computer.

To turn adaptive brightness on or off

Open Power Options by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Security, and then clicking Power Options.

Under any plan, click Change plan settings.

Click Change advanced power settings.

In the list, expand Display, and then expand Enable adaptive brightness.

To turn adaptive brightness on or off when your computer is running on battery power, click On battery, and then, in the list, click On or Off.

To turn adaptive brightness on or off when your computer is plugged into an outlet, click Plugged in, and then, in the list, click On or Off.

Click Apply. Click OK.

hope this helps

There are options.
Forgotten your email address password? Click here. Forgotten your email? Click here.
Something like that. Click on them, You should have given some security questions. Remember those security questions otherwise you won't be able to get your yahoo email back. Once it asks you a question. Like.. "Your Mothers name" You should know what it is. It also might ask for some personal information. That is so that they know if it's really you and not some random trying to access your account.
