Since hooking my printer up to my new Macbook pro, I have not been able to mange the paper selection nor check the ink levels which I could do with my old computer. Also, the ink prints very lightly. How to fix?

Hi. was your old computer windows xp os? mac works a little differently. if you go to page 31 in your user manual the mac printing is explained there. if you don't have a user guide go here to view pdf file.... http://files.support.epson.com/pdf/r1800_/r1800_ug.pdf
if you still have problems you may have to uninstall and reinstall the printer software.
hope this helps some.

1. When you click on PRINT, you should have a choice of PREFERENCES and usually on the front screen you have a drop down list of printer choices so make sure the correct printer is selected.
2. You did not mention if you have checked to see if you need new ink cartridges as the ones you have may be empty?
Hope that starts you in the right direction..........................Pete

Hi,
First of all please check the ink level. If it is not finished try followings:
First try to run a cleaning cycle. To do that:
- Load paper in the paper tray.
- Access printer utilities. (Right click your printer icon, select printing preferences and click the utility tab to access printer utilities)
- Click the nozzle check icon.
- Print to check it.
Then click the clean button to clean the print head.
- Try it a few times.
İf it doesn't help you can try to run power cleaning cycle.
But it uses much ink. There must be enough ink in the cartridge.
Hope this helps.
The problem you are having is with the print head and not the printer. Unfortunately, with these canon print heads, they are not dated, so it is possible to install a print head that was bought new and sealed, but is still dried out because it is old.
Try running the print head through one deep cleaning cycle, this sometimes will start to get an old print head flowing.
Deep cleaning cycle can be found by going to PRINTERS , right clicking on the BJC icon, selecting PROPERTIES from the drop down menu, and then selecting the MAINTAINENCE tab.
Check to make sure that the ink tank in the print head isn't dry. Even a new print head can have a dry tank if it's old.
Exactly what I'm experiencing, it goes though all the motions, but no ink is on the paper. I just installed 10.5.8 last night on my Mac Pro. The drivers are up to date, but no ink hits the paper.
take out and check color ink tanks with a cotton or a soft paper if they pour out any ink. if yes then you got a printhead with dried ink on it that blocks the wet ink to pass through it on the paper. try cleaning the printhead through the "maintainance" menu of your printer - it should be in:
start > settings > printers and faxes > find your printer, right click on it and select "properties"... try it 2-3 times and print something with colours.
if this doesnt help, you should ask your canon dealer how much a new printhead costs or else you must take the printhead out and try to clean the color section with a special ink cleaning solution (alcohol i think is not the best choice - aceton without oil maybe good - i am not sure)...
The paper types available in the driver are dependent on which type of black ink cartridge is loaded in the printer. If the Photo Black ink is loaded, you should have various glossy paper choices. If the Matte Black ink is loaded, you will have a choice of plain or Matte paper types. Once the cartridge is switched, you will get the corresponding paper choices.
I am trying to hook up my printer to a different pc and it will not print...on the paper it prints unsupported personality:PCL...does anyone know why it's doing this??
