ZSUS confusion Can this Zsus board blow if a tv is accidently dropped or if the TV is turned on but the screen is smashed? Husband accident dropped TV, insurance company says TV has this falut on it and say this fault can only have happened before the accident as it needs a screen to be on for it to blow. Is this true. Worked totally find before. Confused and annoyed!! Help!!!

Open tv and look at power supply board. ...look for bulged caps...also controller boards could be blown if caps e blown

Disconnect ZSUS board (the one to the right of the power board from the back) from the Y board (the one to the left of the TV from the back) and try to power on again, see if it stays on.

If yes that's the bad board.

If not disconnect the Y board from power and try again.

TV may still shut itself off, but the timing should be different, even if slightly different.

As of today (oct 2012) prices are fixed at $100 for ZSUS and $120 for YSUS.

The number one reason for this is failed YSUS board EAX37106201 . There are two ICs on it and one of them shorts, preventing the TV to power on.

The second most common reason is failed power board EAY32929001. There are several different things that can happen on it, but the first I'd look for if I were you is visually swollen electrolytic capacitors on the board. Look that up on Google and you'll see plenty of pictures of what to expect.

The third reason would be a bad ZSUS board EAX34042701 / EBR37284601 . Same as with the YSUS, only this is less common and, this one can actually be tested really easy by disconnecting the ZSUS from power and trying to power on the TV again. If it does come on (even with blank screen) then it's the ZSUS that is bad.

You can and should do the same with the YSUS, but it will only work if the ZSUS gets power directly from the power board and NOT through the YSUS board. I am not sure how they were on P50HDTV20A in particular, but in those models usually the ZSUS gets power through the YSUS and thus if you disconnect YSUS from power you automatically disconnect ZSUS as well, which is not good for tests as the power board needs load on the Vs line.

My 50inch plasma LG tv has no picture only sound.

The part that caused the fuse to blow is the hybrid that is mounted underneath the heatsink on the YSUS and ZSUS boards. The part used on these boards might be YPPD-J017C or YPPD-J018C, in about 90% of the time, replacing these hybrids fixes the plasmas with no video but good audio. Since VS and GND is shorted, that means that the hybrid has shorted internally. Most service techs would rather replace the entire YSUS or ZSUS boards since the hybrids are very difficult to remove.

This TV is a plasma according to the model number you've posted. It does not use a lamp.
If the plasma does not show any picture, there might be a defective Ysus, Zsus or power suppy board.
There is a high failure rate on the Ysus and Zsus boards.
Search for a Ysus and Zsus board on google and you should find them.

I know you already replaced the board, this is for future searchers. If you heard a popping sound, then the picture went out, there is a 32 pin Sanyo module that goes bad on the board. That's probably what caused the fuse to blow. Replace the module, then replace the fuse. The module is less than half the cost of a used board. Since this was a popular model TV, there are lots of replacement boards on the used market.
