Hi,

Your description is quite complete but is rather baffling. Pls bear with me while we process by elimination. A few basic/working ideas:

  • most designs call for a single compressor to cool the freezer;
  • the cold air in the freezer is drawn towards the fridge to cool that area;
  • this is performed by a fan drawing air in the freezer through the evaporator;
  • most would have a vent or air pathway to guide the freezer air;
  • all would have thermostatic control to set the desired temperature;
  • some designs have two thermostatic control , 1 for the freezer, 1 for the fridge.
As applied to your concern:
  • compressor is working since freezer is OK;
  • fan is working as you posted but is the air drawn from the freezer, better still, is the air forced/vented into the fridge?
  • could you please check that the air is strongly blown into the fridge area;
  • a little experiment, open the fridge door, look for and press on the door switch, the light should go out, after a lengthy seconds, the fan should trigger on, not only would it be audible, you would notice the frozen air swirling inside the fridge area. If you hold on long enough to the dorr switch, the compressor should kick in (if it is not already running) since the thermostat of the fridge area (if one is present) would sense that the fan is turning but the fridge area is not cooling.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

We have a Kenmore Fridge. The freezer will not freeze anymore but the fridge works fine. We did unplug the fridge and let it sit for 24 hours to see if that would help the freezer to work again. it...

IT'S FUNNY THAT THE FRIDGE SIDE IS WORKING AND THE FREEZER ISN'T,ALL THE MACHINE DOES IS GET COLD IN THE FREEZER AND THE EVAP FAN BLOWS COLD AIR FROM THE FREEZER TO THE FRIGE SECTION.IF THE FRIDGE IS COLD AND THE FREEZER IS RUNNING WARMER THAN IT SHOULD YOU COULD HAVE A SEALED SYSTEM PROBLEM,SOMETHING WGONG WITH THE COMPRESSOR OR A LEAK IN THE SYSTEM.THE GAS WILL CONTINUE TO LEAK AND THEN BOTH SIDES WILL GET WARMER AND WARMER.YOU CAN REMOVE THE INSIDE FREEZER WALL,LOOK AT THE EVAP COIL AND CHECK THE FROST PATTERN ON IT,WHEN IT'S RUNNING CORRECTLY THE WHOLE COIL WILL FROST UP BUT IN YOUR CASE YOU'LL MOST LIKELY FIND THE COIL PARSIALLY FROSTED OR JUST THE TOP OF THE COIL WILL HAVE ICE ON IT,THAT MEANS NEW FRIDGE TIME,IT WOULD BE TO MUCH MONEY TO REPAIR IT.LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU FIND WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE COIL AND WE CAN GO FROM THERE

Fridge side is not cooling, freezer side is fine

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge.The fan in the freezer blows air through it. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp ..
If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

The fridge is cold but the freezer won't freeze

It has seperate cooling circuits as you describe the problem can be a leak of refrigerant in the freezer circuit.if there is no heating up in the freezer condensing coil.It has to be check for the leakage.

The fridge is cold but the freezer won't freeze

The grill being the condenser coil- The sealed system is low on freon or the compressor isn't working correctly.

Refrigerator is not cooling

Hello hazraan
Welcome.

You said your Kenmore model 60852990 freezer is working but refrigerator is not cooling.

Lets try a couple of ideas.
Is your freezer filled up where the packages are covering the air vents in the rear of the freezer?
Refrigerators and freezers must share the cold air and circulate between them. If the freezer is packed full with not enough space at the air vents in side it, the fridge will get warmer!

Next,Turn off the fridge and freezer controls, and then go to the breaker box and turn off the breaker to the fridge for 5 minutes!!!!!
Then restart it and the fridge and freezer controls.
This should reset the system and solve the problem. let me know if either were the case.
If either was the reason,it now will take some 8 to 12 hours to gets back to temperature.

Waiting your response.
