We moved into a new home. The home came with a Whirlpool Duet washer/dryer. The washer smells musty and bad and so do our clothes after washing. Help.
I checked the whirlpool web site and typed in "musty washer" for a search of the site. They gave directions on how to run a cleaning cycle on the machine (whether your washer has a special button for it or not) This REALLY helped my machine. They also had trouble shooting tips for keeping the musty smell away.
Clogged water screens , defective water level pressure switch , clogged drain, kinked drain hose ,. defective water pump , defective water tempeerture switch, damaged water valve solenoid , water inlet valve has an interal malfunction

Whatever goes into my washer comes out smelling slightly musty, but towels pick up the worst of it. I have tried running just bleach through and also tried vinegar. I have wiped the inside of the gasket and changed detergents. I leave the door open for the washer to dry after each wash day. HELP!!!!
I have the same problem and have tried the vinegar and bleach thing. After reading some other complaints and suggestions, I am cleaning under the rubber portion by the door and around the barrel. I heard that you need high efficiency soap and I was not using that and probably using way too much. I am going to switch and use less softener and see if that helps. Additionally I am taking apart the soap dispenser and cleaning it along with the space it goes in. I will try running some bleach or pine cleaner through it afterwards and see what happens. Anyone have any other suggestions?
My washer has the same oder. I only use the HE soap and always less than what is suggested by the manufacturer. The rubber around inner opening has mold spots I can no longer remove and the softner dispenser never completely empties of water, so I have to scrub weekly to keep the mold from building up. I am open to any suggestions, this situation is unacceptable!
I have the same problem! The rubber around the drum has gotten mold spots on it that I cannot remove. I only use HE detergent and the problem has still developed. I leave the door open after every cycle so the inside can dry. I've wiped and cleansed behind the rubber after almost every cycle. It's gross! Hoping to find a solution!
We had the same problem. Is it a front loader ? We removed the arms inside the drum and cleared out all the mold and build up. Also took a rag with cleaning solution and scrubbed inside the rubber seal. You will be surprised what you find. After doing that use an afresh tab on hottest cycle to clean. Drain out and remaining liquid from drain if there is one. Clean out the catch. Hope this helps
