The fact that it takes the pictures ok confirms that it's not the ccd which has failed. A CCD problem would explain the lines on your pictures and the lines on the LCD (since the CCD is used to feed the live image). CCD (Charge Coupled Device) is one of the two main types of image sensors used in digital cameras.

Some symptoms of a defective CCD include distorted images or abnormal colors, scratchy purple lines, blank or black pictures, and/or black videos with good sound being recorded on the camera's flash card.

When a picture is taken, the CCD is struck by light coming through the camera's lens. Each of the thousands or millions of tiny pixels that make up the CCD convert this light into electrons. The number of electrons, usually described as the pixel's accumulated charge, is measured, then converted to a digital value. This last step occurs outside the CCD, in a camera component called an analog-to-digital converter.

In order to correct this issue, the repair facility needs to replace the CCD. This is not something you may do on your own; check this article for additional details: Bad CCDs. This, isn't a good new, but hope helps to solve it.

Samsung themselves wouldn't normally bother; a warranty claim usually means they chuck your camera away and send you a replacement. If you're in the UK click here for details of how to proceed with Samsung.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I'll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Hi, I seem to have a problem with my Finepix Z1 digital camera. When I take a shot it seems to work ok, and the initial review image seems fine as well. But when I go back and review the image on the...

The clue is with the video.
The video function does not use the shutter. Lines on photo's or over exposure is due to the shutter not closing completely over the lens when you take a picture.
It will require cleaning which means opening up your camera and accessing the lens unit

Horizontal Lines through the photo

Horizontal may not be due to the CCD sensor. It can be due to the lens itself. I swap lens from a non-working camera to replace the one with horizontal lines. I found out that I was able to get the camera to work to take great pictures.

Photos taken on zoom have white horizontal lines across them. Photos taken at normal zoom are OK.

Hi!
It sounds like that the shutter cable inside lens is partially broken. It moves with the lens while it zooms, so it could loose contact while stretched - when you have zoomed the lens. Z750 and Z850 have this problem with shutter cable - it breaks. The white horizontal lines are because shutter doesn't work. I'm afraid the cable will brake soon and pictures will be too bright with white horizontal lines even at normal zoom. It is considered a hard repair - the shutter part or whole lens unit has to be changed. You can contact your local Casio service center and ask the price, but it will probably be very high. I work in a Casio service center and new lens for this camera costs about 250$. It's not a good idea to put on used lens or shutter, as it will brake again sometime - it's just a matter of time. I suggest you get another camera.

Hope this helps!

Canon a80 camera

It seems that either the image sensor or the connection between the image sensor and the processing board has been damaged or was improperly installed. If you sent it in because the lens was jammed it is highly likely that this is what has happened. See if you can get the facility who repaired it to cover the re-do, in the end it is their fault if your CCD is defective now and was not before the repair. However - if the camera was non functional after you dropped it they could very well say that the impact caused the problem. You might have no options besides either dealing with the issue or replacing the camera. David Millier Advance Camera Repair
