Xerox phaser 8400 message

Our printer is stuck! we had to replace the maintenance kit, but it was still printing blurry after that. Our tech support came and tore the machine apart, and now it keeps telling us to "close exit cover to continue" The problem is, the cover is closed! we've turned it on and off, unplugged it completely, opened and closed the door, pulled out the maintenance kit and tray and replaced them, nothing is working. Any ideas what we can do? There was no problem with the exit cover before we replaced the maintenance kit....

Unfortunately that was not the problem. I found the hole and the tab is still there. Could it be something electric inside?

The exit cover, has an actuator on the left side. It became dislodged thusly broken. we cut some duct tape to the under side of the actuator. Its a bandage solution until we can get the part in. The actuator is part of the cover that rests under the display panel. The exit cover sensor pushes down on this actuator. Duct Tape...solves almost everything.

What has most likely happened it the tab that actuates the cover switch has broken off. What you want to do it open that cover and look around the edge where it meets up with the other cover. There will be a hole, I would say about a half inch long and about a quarter inch wide where there will be a switch. Look at the exit cover in that area and you will probably see where a tab was, and is not broken off. You normally can fix it by making a couple of small holes in the cover and epoxying a paper clip in that area as a new switch actuator. You have to break or cut the paper clip to the proper length and so you have 2 ends to pop through the cover and epoxy it to.

Yes. in that hole there is a switch that the tab actuates. It may have come off the mountings.

4 years later, and the problem occurs still. and we found the solution, thank you Mr Kasper. The actuator on the left side of the printer became dislodged, we fixed it with duct tape.

Phaser 8400, can not pull the orange maintenance kit, it seems that it is stuck

It is stuck when the machine is properly shut down?
You can remove the left side cover and gently rotate the process drive until the kit lowers and releases.

Why is my Phaser 8400 leaving black smears on my printed pages and after running remove print smears, it doesn't correct the problem.

Have you looked at the roll in your maintenance kit? It may be dry in that area and not applying enough lubricant on the drum. Or you have some contaminant on the print head wiper blade or the mylar strip in the maintenance kit. Sounds like something is making contact with the drum causing your problem.

Xerox Phaser 8400: Our printer keeps jamming. Some of the ink is staying on the right edge of the drum and it seems as the paper goes through the printer it gets stuck on that ink. We use only Xerox ink...

There are no less than 5 places on this model where you might clear a paper jam. Is it possible you still have a small bit of paper stuck somewhere?

No, it will not work because the chip (CRUM) is not compatable.

Clean an 8400

Replace the maintenace kit and then in the menus run eliminate light stripes and eliminate smears.
There really isnt much else to do.
What you do when you run the light stripes and smears modes the machine removes all the ink from the print head, turns on a compressor and blows out the jets on the print head.
There really isn't a "cleaning " procedure as with a laser printer. If the maintenance kit is good, it pretty much maintanes itself.

PHASER 8400

There is an encoder on the drum drive motor that picks up lubricant from the maintenance kit. It may simply need cleaned, if cleaning doesnt work, it will need to be replaced.
Xerox has parts lists on the xerox.com site for that product if you need to locate it.

I have a Xerox Phaser 8400 and when I print it is blurry. I have done a clean and replace maintenance kit. What next?

Most likely the drum encoder has picked up lubricant from the maintenance kit. If you remove the right side cover it is on the end of the drum shaft. Normally cleaning that well resolves blurrs.
The drum itself may not getting perfectly into print position either. A cable hanging it up just a little to far from the drum.
But most likely the encoder needs cleaned. Possibly replaced.

Maintanance kit replace

Problem:
The machine displays the Replace Maintenance Kit after the Maintenance Kit has been replaced.
Cause:
There may two causes for this issue.
  1. The machine does not recognize that the Maintenance Kit was removed. This would likely be caused by a defective Drum Maintenance Pivot Plate.
  2. The machine corrupts the CRUM on the new Maintenance Kit. This may be caused by a defective Drum Maintenance Pivot Plate or IO Board.
Solution: thumbsup.gif Fixed! thumbsdn.gif Did not fix.
  1. While the Replace Maintenance Kit message is displayed, remove the Maintenance Kit. If the displayed message does not change to "Maintenance Kit Missing," replace the Drum Maintenance Pivot Plate and install a new Maintenance Kit.
  2. While the Replace Maintenance Kit message is displayed, remove the Maintenance Kit. If the displayed message changes to "Maintenance Kit Missing," replace the IO Board and then install a different NEW Maintenance Kit. If the problem persists, replace the Drum Maintenance Pivot Plate and install a different NEW Maintenance Kit.
