File System Error!?

I have had a Philips 4Gb Go Gear player for about 3 months. It's been working great until about 4 days ago. I try to turn on my player and it stays on the Go Gear screen for about 10 seconds than shows a white screen that says File System Error and then shuts off. When I plug it into the computer it charges, and my computer makes a noise like it recognized it,but my computer will not recognize it. Please Help, I'm only 12 and I spent all of my money on this player! It's driving me nuts!

  • Anonymous Oct 30, 2008

I charged my player last night, and when I tried to turn it on this morning it went to the philips white screen, then cut to file system error. What do I do??? I only got it a month ago...

  • Anonymous Nov 14, 2008

I have the File system error problem but no drive D: or any other removable drive that is not normally there shows up.

So with no drive shown in Explorer, how do I format my player?

  • blair01 Nov 17, 2008

I ALSO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM IT SAY'S "FILE SYSTEM ERROR"... DOES ANYONE HAVE THE SOLUTION? BECAUSE I DID NOT SEE ANY REMOVABLE DISK (D:) EITHER.

  • walkr21 Nov 20, 2008

Ive had the sae MP3 player and just purchased it a few onths ago, worked fine, until I disconnected it from my PC,and the only screen that will come on is "File System Error", and then turns off, unable to ven be used, Im on disability and saved for a while before I could afford this MP3, and its basically useless as it will show no screen, or even regisyer on my computer as it always did ,offering me choices as to what Id likke to do. I plug it in, the cnnection sound is heard, but no screen comes up.Id like a refund or replacement after the problem has been solved as to why this happened

  • Anonymous Nov 22, 2008

    same promblem

  • Anonymous Dec 29, 2008

I have the same problem and so far none of the solutions have been
helpful. This happened to me once before and I simply did the same
thing as Stephie14 suggested. but THAT was when my computer was recognizing the device. This time my computer is completely ignoring my MP3 player when I plug it in. I can't get to it's file under "computer" to delete everything because it's not there! I've tried restarting the computer, hitting the reset button on the device, etc... I'm at a loss.

  • Anonymous Jan 09, 2009

I charged my player for a few hours and when I tried to turn it on it reads, File system error, the player is only a few weeks old. Please help me with this problem, thanks.

  • Anonymous Mar 11, 2009

I posted earlier and have been trying every posted "solution" but to no avail. It appears my MP3 player is completely useless.

But I did solve the problem by going out and getting an iPod Nano.

It cost me twice what I paid for the Phillips, but it's working like a charm. So I guess you really do get what you pay for.

    Hi,
I had same error and fixed it.
    Error description:
On Philips GoGear Ariaz was an error : File system error.
When I connected it to my PC (windows 7, 10), it was not recognized correctly. Device manager saw MTP device, but could not find correct driver.
    Solution:
Connected device to PC, where was installed Ubuntu (in my case Linux Mint 17). On PC: menu -> USB stick formatter -> format as Fat32.
After formatting, device will be recognized on Windows and will work again.

Ok, so what you need to do is plug your player into the computer. Then, in the go to my computer in your start area.
In your computer folder, you should have a removable disk (D:), this is your player.
Right click on the tab and go to Format, click on quick format and then start.
The next window that should pop up will say that it will may erase all the files on the device. That is ok. It will erase all the music you had on there, but that is easy enough to load back on.
Wait for it to finish, unplugg it, turn it on, and you should be good. All you have to do now is reload the music!
I had to figure this out for myself just a few minutes ago because I was having this same problem. Good Luck!

Same problem here. Soooooo I plugged the player into my Macbook, went to Disk Utilities, ran the "repair" option ............ it worked !!!!!!!!! Went back to the Windows XP partition that I also run on the Mac, loaded my songs onto the player from a folder titled "GoGear"where I have all of my songs backed up. It took about 15 minutes to load. I now have 2304 songs back on my 4GB GoGear. Still have 1.6 GB of free space on the player. Moral of the story ........ backup your files, and get a Mac. Windows SUCKS !!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, this is from 2008 and it's almost 2014 but people are still having the same problem. How can I open the 'removable disk' when that is NOT where the philips gogear is reflected. The problem is that it isn't showing up under 'my computer' AT ALL & the 'removable disk' drives all show empty. Normally the gogear shows up in whatever USB hub I plug it into and is called 'phlips gogear' and shows total memory space/used/available, etc. like every other drive - now it doesn't show up AT ALL. The USB hubs show that nothing is plugged in, my 'eject hardware & media devices' does not indicate the MP3 player is plugged in either. It's a BLANK. Also it is NOT easy to reload the music files and many people do not have backup files for those, it doesn't matter anyway because the computer doesn't read the MP3 player PERIOD.

I have been looking for a fix for 8 months. Have tried every fix suggested. Still cannot repair or update firmware. Philips has been no help whatsoever.

Warranty issued with device, useless.

My personal solution is to never purchase another Philips product.

If your computer is not recognizing the device and you DON'T have the software on your computer, you need to go to the philips.com - click on "Customer products" - then "product support" - then find your device and download all the software for it (Device/Filmware Manager especially)
Once you have all the software on your computer- open it and plug your device back into the computer while holding down the "back" button the entire time until the computer recognizes it. It should start repairing your device automatically. It WILL delete everything on your Mp3 player.

I had this problem because I got a new computer and forgot to put the philips gogear software on it. If you don't have the correct software on your computer, you WILL have problems.

The product I bought in the UK is 8 GB, yet it is not among the products on Philips official website, only the 4 GB model. Device manager link never worked, not even dowloading, after 8 month my device is actually garbage, I will never ever buy any Philips again. The website is stupid, among ten thousands of miniature photos of mp4 players yet mine is not among them.....holy ****...this is not professional at all!!!

Ok, so i figured out the BEST WAY TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM!!!

Connect your player to your PC, and go to my computer.
Find where the player is connected (e.g REMOVABLE DISK E:)
Right Click it, and click FORMAT
This will erase all of your files, but WILL MAKE YOUR PLAYER WORK AGAIN!!!!

Plug usb cable, push (10 sec) reset button (left) and wait. Later, GoGear was turn on, in transfer mode, wait.
The Phillips Device Manager must be opened. Eject mp4 on my computer, release the usb cable.
Press button "+" , plug usb cable and wait the Device Manager.
Just Fix in Device Manager.
No NOT format the device. NOT forget eject before unpluged usb cable.
Sorry for my english.

My Gogear is not reflected in device manager, my computer, 'eject hardware' or any other place on my PC, therefore these options are useless.

Ok, here's another piece of the puzzle.

I just tried connecting my GoGear to my wife's XP netbook and it came up just as sweet as you please.

It appears the issue may be with Microsoft VISTA. (What a shock, huh?)

Try connecting to an XP machine and you may be able to resurrect your dead unit.

Since I went and bought myself an iPod in the interim, I'm giving the GoGear to the wife. And she's ever so grateful. <wink>

Cheers!

I have the problem that my system says the device is working properly, Philips Device Manager doesn't see it connected, no device listed in my Computer bu tin device manager (system) it sees it. Without being able to access it in any way, I cant do anything. I am so P'd off with this product. I am technically able, but nothing I do can get this **** working. Why doesn't Philips respond to emails about support? I am sick of companies not backing up their product. I have had this problem since I purchased it. One day computer recognizes it, next time, it doesn't. I have had the MP3 plugged into the system for 2 weeks, praying it will fix itself at this point. It is a piece of ****!!!!!

Note: if the player still recognized as removable: disk but cannot access the drive. if the player doesnt recognized by the computer, the solution stated wont work ok..

Solution:go to disk management under windows XP, wait until the utility recognize ur drive, in the event it did show up right click on the drive and format (FAT) it will take a little long just wait and Kaboom ur player has been resurrected..

thank you hope it helps.

I've been adding music to my mp3 and one day I used a different site to add music, so ever since that day I couldn't turn on my mp3 player. It turns on to the "go gear vibe" screen then...

Hi theondraw,
I see that you mp3 will not work now after adding Audio from a different site.
It is possible that the format of your mp3 was compromised or shall I say corrupted, that only way is to format the mp3 again and start a fresh audio list all file on your mp3 could be corrupt now.
Reformat your mp3 and try adding audio using only application or program, mp3 players have specific formatting when adding audio and form other site it may be different and could damage the file system.
Waiting for 4 day will really not work that will just let the unit stay rested and not do any fix, Reformat the Unit add Add Audio an try it again, just an advise use only one program/application when adding audio on your mp3 to prevent file corruption.
Have a nice day.
Thank you for choosing Fixya,

When I turn on my mp3 plater it says file system error.

The program of your MP3 player is corrupted. You need to contact the manufacturer and have them reprogram your MP3 player with the latest firmware version and your device should work better.

My gogear freezes every couple of minutes!

Update the firmware first

It could be a hardware issue requiring replacement, but here are the things you can try to narrow it down:
1. Make sure the hold/lock is not engaged
2. Reset the player
3. Run an Updated using the latest version of the Philips Device Manager from Philips website
4. Run a Repair in Philips Device Manager

Triple Reset for Philips’ GoGear:

Disconnect the Go Gear from computer. Press the reset pinhole until the player turns off. Hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard. If this pop-up does not appear, reset the player again WHILE connected to the computer. Open the Philips Device Manager, and go to Repair Tab. Reset the player one more time while connected to computer. Follow the repair instructions.

After repair is complete, upgrade the firmware for this player. Will erase all the songs, but you should be good to go again.

If these methods fail, call Philips to see if you are still in-warranty.

System error prob.

The "File System Error" message is bad - it means that, rather than deleting just music files, you have accidentally deleted a key system file required for the Go Gear to operate properly. If you are still under warranty, call Philips and get a replacement GoGear, because they do not provide replacement files.

I have a Philips Gogear Mp3 player. suddenly I'm not able to switch on the power supply and i tried charging it for 4-5 hrs.no Use. It's just 4 months old. can u help me?

It's dead. The HDD models are basically obsolete - you may have purchased it 4 months ago, but it was manufactured 3 years ago. Here is the basic troubleshooting to be sure, but it won't work:
