Which kindle is it? paperwhite? or fire? to reset a fire Most android devices can be put into safe mode. to do this "press the power button to turn it off" when the box opens up on the screen which says Restart power off or airplane mode. press and hold the power icon till a box opens that says "Reboot to safe mode" or cancel. since you want it off press cancel.

The other possiblity is that you've been pranked and someone defined a password
You should have an email address associated with your Amazon Kindle account. Go to Amazon dot com and attempt to log on to your Kindle account. When you put in a wrong password it will reject it but there should be an option that says something like *forgot password?* You might have to enter a wrong password a couple of times before this option becomes available. Click on it and it should take you to a page where you can reset the password which means they will email you a new temporary one or something like answering your special questions right that you can use one time to log onto your account. Once on, you can create a new password and do your bank details changes.
