If it is a screen setting, wide screen, movie, other setting it may be as simple as that it would be a matter of menu settings. or if it is trying to decipher HD and it is not connected to an HD Reciever then it would not fill the screen.

SOURCE: LCD TV Picture

I've seen some of these where some of the cable connectors inside of the set need to be reseated . They have become loose . Or you may have a problem in the video circuit of the set . Good luck

SOURCE: someone was messing around with

i was going crazy then i finally found a clue on google: hit the setting button on your digital cable remote, go into 'display', change aspect ratio to 16:9, screen size to 'stretch', and output to 1080 or 720 depending on what you have. Were HD channels full screen? If they were they were NOT set properly as above anyway and non-hd channels were black on both side with some having black all the way around on some channels, correct? Hope it helps! I have time warner digital cable and an 52 LG 70 with HDMI...no settings on your tv will fix this if you are in a similar situation b/c its the settting in the digital cable box that need to be re-adjusted.

Why does the picture only fill the screen if I zoom in?

Hi Anonymous,
Please use the P SIZE key on the remote control and choose the picture of your liking. It will not be as we are used to see on the conventional Picture Tube TVs.

Make the picture fill the screen

my samsung has a blue button on the lower right side of the remote the botton is labled (P-size) pressing the button cycles the set for the several screen size functions.--Wide Fit--4:3--16:9. If you are watching network TV on an antenna you will get a full picture on 16:9, but you may be watching on cable without HD.

Picture does not fill the screen

Check the main output voltage (B+) from its SMPS regulator side. If this voltage is lesser than normal, picture won't fill the entire screen. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Viewing it in "Mosaic" will make surf easy. Surf the site with patience.

LG 55ln5700 picture does not fill screen

Go to picture/video settings and make sure your screen size is set for 16:9 or wide screen ratio.............

If you have dish or cable go into menu settings and check and make sure the same is true

Sometimes on the remote there is a picture size/mode button you can press to change the screen size

Normal or Wide would be widescreen
Stretch is zoomed picture that fills the screen
Letterbox is the square box screen

It sounds like a picture setting problem to me
I would try those things first

JUST PURCHASED A 60 INCH DLP TELEVISION MOST TV CHANNELS ARE NOT FULL SCREEN.... WHAT STEPS DO I TAKE TO INLARGE THE PICTURE TO FIT THE 60 INCH SCREEN ?

Channels that transmit in 480 or 720 may not fill the screen. You can use the Aspect or Zoom button or feature to expand those channels to fill the screen but there may be some stretching in one direction or parts of the picture may extend beyond the edge of the TV. Some TVs have a "justified" setting that will not distort the center of the picture and just stretches the corners. Look in your manual for Picture Size, Aspect, or Zoom for details about your TV.

The Vizio HDTV sets are all software driven. With the remote control select the menu option.
Then under the picture tab. look for the picture format full screen, wide screen. select the wide screen option. This setting should fill the screen.

Picture in high def does not fill screen

That is normal. Most HDTV's have a format or picture size option on the remote or menu. It will give you options like full, stretch ot zoom to fill in the blank spots. The problem is those settings can also distort the picture size so people look funny.
