Forgotten pre-shared key for D-Link Router

I have a D-Link DIR-615 router. I would like to add a device to the network. However, I have forgotten the pre-shared key. I logged into the router via the product page. I then followed: wireless settings/manual wireless network set to find the encrypted pre-shared key with no apparent way to decode. Can I recover this key? I really do not want to completely reprogram the network.

I thought there was a check box in this model that enabled you to see the password/key. If not then you may have to do a factory reset and set-up everything from scratch. Cannot remember if this model has a guest mode, but if the device you are connecting is not critical, TV, BlueRay, Roku etc, then enable the guest mode without a password to connect. These devices will NOT connect to other things on the network, but if they only need internet access it may be OK.

SOURCE: D-Link DIR-615 Internet LED light not working

Even though we need more info to resolve the issue, I will make a guess here. My guess is that your D-Link is not configured right, (ie. not pulling the proper info from your ISP's DHCP server.

Try restarting the router and restart or repair your network connection on your pc. Secondly, try to do a "hard reset" on the router, or restore to default. Then reset your connection on the PC. Third, manually set the info on the router.

If you are wireless, you have a whole different issue.

SOURCE: Lost Network Key

an easy way around this is to do a factory reset then set up wifi security using wpa-psk and use the serial number for the pre-shared key.

Connect a LAN cable to the router and computer. Open your WEB Internet Explorer and your in the router's URL IP configuration address.
This will be 192.168.0.1 and the default Login = admin and the default password = (blank) just press Enter.
You can now change the default password.

How can i make my wifi unlock on my D-Link dir 615 wireless router

Login in using your browser using a LAN cable and go to the wireless settings and set-up a wireless password/key. Remember the key because each device will now need it to connect. You can also turn OFF Broadcast SSID and your network name will not be shown on anyone's device. You must remember the network name when using this method.

My son just bought a new laptop, and I have forgotten our router's username and password. We do not have an ethernet cable. Is there anything we can do? The router details: D-Link Dir-615.

@bodil_little

The only way to reset your router to factory default is by pressing the Reset key at the back for 20 seconds or until you see that the lights goes OFF and ON (usually this is a button that you need to press or a hole that you need to stick something with i.e. like a paperclip). After you reset the router, it will be back to factory settings and your network will now be unsecured and you just need to setup a new security key. Please see image below.

Forgotten username as well as password!

if you didn't change it, try admin-blank, admin-admin, admin-password... if you changed it at one point you will have to reset it back to factory and redo it from scratch.
if you have to start over, this should get you going, it's fairly easy...

I am trying to connect to wi-fi but i have forgotten my network name and password.

If you have forgotten both the SSID and the password, your best bet would be to restart the router to factory settings. Press the reset button on the back of the router, and set up a new SSID and password.

Need to reset password to include new handheld device. No current password works when trying to access the network from the new device.

If you have a password on your d-link you will need to know what that is in order to connect the new device. If you've forgotten it you will need to reset the router, but then you will have to change the password ie web or wap key on each computer that is using the wireless.

You reset the d-link by depressing the reset with a pin. That will remove all the settings so you will have to reset the router again. Make sure you write down the pwd so you remember it. If you're not worried about anyone in the household knowing it just write it on a piece of tape and tape it to the bottom of the router.

When you set up your new hand held device you will need to use that key to connect it.

I am connected to a DIR 615, it says I have wireless connection but it won't connect wireless, if I connect a cable it is fine??

Hi mike63771,

All you need to do is to set it up properly. Make sure that the router is connected to the computer using an ethernet cable so that the computer will be able to communicate with the router. Then open a browser type 192.168.0.1 on the address bar. The default username is admin and the password is blank. Go to the Wireless Settings Page then check the SSID or Network Name and the Network Key or Passphrase. Now try to connect to your computer. Click on Start then click on Connect To. Select your Network Name then if it ask you to enter a password enter the Network Key. You can personalize the network key on the router settings page.
