Yes you can. Depending on the model of the tool it may not be the clutch causing your problem though. On some models the transmission is more likely the problem. Brushes create an ozone smell when the motor runs so that could be the smell. Does it run slow or get hot?

Dewalt 18v XRP Hammer drill cause battery to burn, I'm talking flames and smoke. Motor run in both direction.

I hope this drill is still under warranty as the battery is in serious trouble. As long as the motor is turning, it should not be causing the battery to do this. Hope this helps!

Can I adjust the slip clutch on my Dewalt XRP?

Yes it is the black ring with the numbers on it, the lower the number, the easier it slips. Higher number, less slip.

Dewalt cordless drill

You have burned out the drill motor, it is shorted, the battery smoked due to a direct short, one thing I don't understand why the thermal limiter didn't trip in battery pack, I would contact manufacturer and try to get hem to buy you a new drill.

18V xrp Drill Help

The problem could be the brushes and if so it is be quit easy to replace them by pulling the drill apart and slipping the old ones out of there sleeves on the armature and slipping the new ones back in there place . you can buy these brushes at any good tool shop . all you will need is the model number of the drill which you can locate on the side case of your drill . hope this helps.
