What has worked for me on this vacuum is once the handle is off and the on-off switch is visible, work it back and forth manually.  Mine was very stiff and it did not get any better.   I went to radio shack and bought a spray can of Control/Contact Cleaner and Lubricant. It comes with a small piece of tubing.  I put the tube into the top edge of the switch and pushed the button FOR A FRACTION OF A SECOND and then did the bottom edge of the switch.   I worked the switch manually a couple of times.   I repeated the spraying one more time and the rocking.   I put it all back together and has been working fine for me.   This stuff is made for electrical contacts...  HOWEVER, use it very very sparingly!!!  ALSO, a new can has a bit of pressure so watch out that you don't blow some back at you.   JOE

This has happened to me on at least two of my well used hoover windtunnels that I've owned. Easy fix: take the handle off and tightly wrap duct tape or electrical tape around the black plastic "switch rod". Doing that will make it thicker and thus able to activate the on/off switch again.

Likely the switch rod (part 10 on parts diagram) is bending and/or switch is getting a little stiff. Take two screws out of handle and pull towards you (as you stand behind vacuum). Upon removal of handle assembly, actuate on/off switch with your finger. If it is smooth and free, you can try replacing switch rod. If you're handy, you can glue a piece of (plastic/metal/wood) behind the switch rod like I did to act as a backstop/boss. This will hold the cheap plastic switch rod in firm contact with the red on/off rocker switch. If the switch seems sticky or hard to flip by hand...it's likely the culprit and needs replacing. This happened to both my mother's and grandmother's identical units.

Sounds like you have a faulty switch or the actuator inside it is not functioning properly between contacts for ON and OFF. Best bet would be to go to a local appliance repair center and just get a new one.. They are pretty easy to remove and replace.. ( obviously while it is NOT plugged into a power receptacle)..

Carpet/Floor Switch problem on Hoover WindTunnel Vacuum

Well, you have to deal with it, you have to play with this electrical things if you want to fix this problems.

The good news is, the sources of the problems is the switch already broken. The first things before you do anything is, find this switch on the market first to changes the old ones. Then, remove the power cord from the outlet of course.

After have it, then you must open the old switch, and remove it from the unit by cutting the cables using cutter/ pliers or anything. But remember, you must remember the locations of each cable that been cut, you can use Camera Cellphone to make sure of it if you like.

Then put the cables back together with the new switch, after all done, clean all the mess and try operate it.

Hope it works!!!

Hoover windtunnel self-propelled - will not turn on

You probably need the switch replaced. It's fairly simple to do youself, and it is a known problem with these vacuums.
You can order the switch from hoover for about $10

Self Propel doesn't work on Hoover Wind Tunnel

Your self propel wire could be broken. Lean the vacuum back like you were using it. If you stand in front of the vacuum look down and to your left. When you move the selp propel button you should see a wire move. If not then it's broken.

Hoover Windtunnel

Take the handle off, then remove the tool holder, then you can get to the switch. Just has tabs on each side of switch, depress them and push it out. These switches will do this after awhile, replacing them is usually the way to correct the problem.

Power switch will not work

Hoover U6437-900 U6439-900 Windtunnel Upright
seems there is a short in the power switch, is that possible, I have it disassembled and seems there is power going into the on/off button, but will only sporadically turn on

I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
This could be a defective switch or it could be a loose connection or wire – chances are that it is a defective switch and needs replacement – this could be a slider switch of which does wear out and that is why it will comes on sporadically – if there is a local vacuum cleaner shop in your area they can test the switch and possibly sell you a new one

Off/on switch does not work

The on/off switch in Hoover Windtunnel upright vacuum cleaners is operated by a lever in the handle assembly.  remove the two screws on the back ovf the vacuum and see if the lever has bypassed the switch assembly.  if so, re-assembly should fix the problem.  It is also possible that the switch activating lever has broken.  If so, replace the activating lever.
