Ice maker malfunction

The ice maker will fill with water then make the first run of cubes. After this, the ice maker will fill with water and freeze into a solid block. The cubes never dump, becuase the cube maker is full, the refill water is "overflowing" and running to bottom of freezer and eventually out the door. What is the cause of this problem? I replaced the ice maker and it is still doing the same thing with the new one.

SOURCE: Ice cube dispenser not working

Not real familiar with that specific model but it sounds like the heating element isn't working to loosen the ice from the tray as it's dumped. A typical ice maker has a small heat element under it to melt the surface of the ice just slightly while it dumps.

SOURCE: water does not dispense from door

I found that the door on the GE side by side doors are not accessable and cannot be repaired if a water line inside the door is defective. The entire door must be replaced at a cost of almost $370. The problem, which seems to be quite common relative to the lack of water at the dispenser, is the result of the water tube in the door freezing due to excess cold levels in the freezing compartment. This is probabley due to poor insulation around the water line as in exits near the ice dispenser gate. The solution is simple, lower the freezing level and use water frequently to keep it from freezing. Also, keep the lines clean by changing the filter often if the local water source is laden with particulates. I think GE should foot the bill for changing doors or re-engineer the doors to access the area where the water line makes contact with the cold surface of the inside panal.

SOURCE: 1 ice cube gets stuck when the maker dumps ice

Look at the 2 blades where the cube sticks carefully.

My bet is that the blades are ever-so-slightly bent toward one another - or the factory remove-before-use lable remmnants are still on one of the facing blades.

If label is there, remove with edge of credit card. Don't force, USE NO TOOLS
If they are metal and bent, simply bend very slightly beyond parallel and check again until straight
If they are plastic and bent, bend farther than needed and let slowly loose. Check and repeat

Good Luck!

SOURCE: ice maker won't dump cubes

the problem is that the tray doesn't eject the cubes, they get stuck and it just breaks them and only parts come out instead of the whole cube/crescent, then the proper amount of water comes in as refill, the tray gets too full and your problem begins. Take the unit out, then take the tray out, its's easy, and give it a light coat of Pam, olive oil or corn oil, the cubes will eject properly. It took me 3 years to figure this out, it willl amaze you.

for everyone with the fan screech noise, replace the fan motor, don't buy the blade, look around the websites, I found it, my second replacement, for 28 but as high as 65.

yeah I hate this fridge too

SOURCE: GE Ice Maker that leaks water down the freezer wall

Ice makers have limit switches, thermal temp sensors, heating element and if anything gits out of order with these parts they will begin to do strange things like that. Now if you would like to remove it and have a look at the internal parts you may find the problem. They are a little easy to loose parts so be careful if that's your choice. A series of about six different cycles happen when they fill until the time it empties and begins again. They may cost less if you don't see what wrong to purchase a new ice maker. If you would like more help feel free to ask, Thanks, Sea Breeze

the thermostat is what determines when the ice maker should start a harvest, could also be a bad valve

Compartment only gets to 32 degrees. compressor runs, fan runs, water valve ok refrigerant ok doesn't get cold enough to activate water valve to fill tray.could it be cold control-relay-compressor ???

Ok 32 deg is freezing. If compressor is running and condenser fan is running and refrigerant psi is good then lets check Malfunctioning water valve assembly, check to see if you are getting water to water valve if so then check to see if you are getting power to water valve. Check mold heater, you don't want mold heater on at this time. It sounds like you are having a water or water valve issue.

I have a whrilpool refrigerater the ice maker will not fill with water?

Bonjour,
Ice makers can clog. The water valve can stick open or closed or even not work at all. The water fill nozzle can clog with ice or food. If the unit has been moved the water line could be kinked or the water filter may be clogged. Maybe the water valve for the ice maker water line is turned off. Is there one under the sink? Inside most ice makers there is a thermostat that tells the ice maker that the water is frozen and it's time to dump the ice cubes. That starts a geared motor running to dump out the cubes. And in some cases a mold heater is turned on to help break the ice cubes loose. A lot of ice makers have a cam attached to the motor that turns with the shaft. When the ice cubes are gone the cam starts a timer to refill the ice maker with fresh water to make some more ice cubes. Most "fill" cycles of ice makers are "timed fill". The fill cycle has to start and stop to get fresh water into the ice maker. There may be another thermostat that monitors the air temperature where the ice maker is mounted. If that thermostat thinks the air is not cold enough to freeze water nothing happens. If all the steps don't happen at the right time no ice cubes are made.

Freezer won't make ice cubes, but does provide cold water.

The water and ice maker are two seperate water control valves built onto the same. Your water control valve for the ice maker may be defective and require that you change the set. Fill ice maker with tap water and allow the water to freeze. If the ice maker dumps the ice into ice bin and then does not refill then this points to the water control valve. If the ice maker does nothing after water freezes then the problem is the ice maker. Send me a model number and I will look up the part numbers for you, Thanks, Sea Breeze

No ice Ice maker does not fill up with water

Pour about 2/3 cup of water into the ice maker . If it freezes and dumps , then check the fill tube going to the ice maker , to see if it is frozen up inside . If it is , replace the water valve behind the refrig , where the wall water line connects to on the refrig . If the ice maker dumps the cubes , but does not refill with water , then the water valve is bad . If the ice maker does not dump the cubes , then replace the ice maker .

Ice maker doesn't work

Pour about 2/3 cup of water into the ice maker . If it freezes and dumps the cubes , but doesn't fill with water , replace the water inlet valve ( the piece that the wall water line connects to on the fridge ) . Also check to be sure that the fill tube from the back of the freezer to the ice maker , isn't blocked with ice , as this is caused by a seeping bad water valve . If the ice maker doesn't dump the cubes , after freezing , then replace the ice maker . Also check to make sure the coils under the front of the refrig , are clean of dust , lint , pet hair , etc.

Water is leaking out of ice maker and freezing up where cubes are

Sounds like water valve is not closing all the way after the icemaker calls for water. This is because sediment in water builds up on valve seat therefore letting water pass through. Suggest replacing fill valve. Crescent shaped ice....ice maker on needs 4 ounces to fill icemaker, so any more than that will spill out.

Scotsman CM250AE Ice Machine tech help

Check the bridge size adjustment at the top of the metal grid that the ice forms on. This determines the size of the cubes. Whenever you make a repair on the water system, especially on an older unit. make sure the unit is clean. A little bit of calcium deposits (or that other nasty looking stuff) getting into the passage ways will make it run erratically, and can drive you nuts.

My ice freezes together!

Do you mean the ice cubes are too large to be individual cubes and come out as a lump? The water is filled by a timed fill so if the fill solenoid stays open a little and drips water into the cube tray it will have more water than normal. I guess I'm not sure if you mean the ice cubes are stuck together in the tray or are they sticking together in the holding bin area?

The water continues to drip after the ice cube maker is full.

Sounds like the water fill solenoid valve is leaking by. You will have to change that solenoid valve if the water continues to drip into the ice maker tray after a normal fill cycle. http://www.partselect.com/AdvancedModelSearch.aspx?ModelNum=JCD2295HES&mfgModelNum=JCD2295HES&fkMfgID=1
