When we make a copy it gets stuck at the rollers - creating a paper jam. we changed the registration clutch, new spacers, and new pressure roller and no error seen and it seems that it is sensing an A5 paper where as the tray is set for A4 .

This works from HP help link in error message:
Turn off the
HP All-in-One.
2
Press in the tab on the rear
door to release the door. Remove the door by pulling it away from the
HP All-in-One.
Caution Trying to clear a paper jam from the
front of the HP All-in-One can damage the print mechanism. Always access and
clear paper jams through the rear door.

Try this, make a print from the by-pass tray, does it go OK or jam??
If it jams then there is a problem with the paper feed from the tray.
If it jams then
1-check the drum and see if there is an image on it( you can put a mark on the edge to see if it's rotating, thus eliminating the drum unit)
2-same for the reg roller
3-check for labels ar foreign objects

You will need either the Canon PCL printer kit J1 or J2 if you want it to print (unless it's already fitted). If the copier is an IR2016J then it cannot be upgraded to a printer.
