Toshiba 50HP66 about 5 years old. No picture is displayed, no sound is heard, but backlight is lit. On-screen menu does not display either. Other inputs have been tested with same result. Being that there is no picture AND no sound and the OSD menu will not display I'm thinking that the main logic board went bad? Anyone more knowledgeable have any ideas? Thanks!

It sounds like the video output isn't
working its most likely a component
failure 1 thing you could try is connecting
a rca cables from video/audio out on the set to
another set vid/audio inputs to see if it the video gets
through. This is a problem that requires technical
knowledge and test equipment to trace the video

It can be the power supply, and or a short on one of the boards that is causing the set to go in to protect mode.
The service tech will swap out boards to find the problem. He will leave the board installed that does the fix.
Be prepaired, these sets are rather expensive to service.

I think that the pop you heard was an electrolytic capacitor blowing its top on the picture frame board. If you are able to check this for yourself by looking on the board for the one/s with a bulging top or are a brownish/black colour like something has caught fire. And also in this situation smell can be of great help as it will smell burnt out but PLEASE before putting your nose or anything else in the tv take all necessary precautions against electric shock and discharge any electrolytic capacitors in the vicinity. If you are not able to do this yourself find a competant technician. Hope this helps.

Ok so I just learned that plasma TVs dont have backlights, so the glow that I am seeing must be from the plasma panel itself. So basically its turning on but there is no pic, no sound, and the OSD will not display.
