Sounds like you have bearings problems that need need grease. Normally the drum rests on two separate bearings up front and one located at the drum center at the rear. Since you know how to take it apart you should be able to locate the bearings. A mall amount of general purpose grease will do the trick. The scatching noise may come from loose object floating around, may be a shirt button ? investigate.

Good luck and good repairs. A dryer repair is not too difficult since you have already checked to condition of the belt...Here an extra tip for the performance of your dryer, always clean the screen air filter with soap an water to remove the invisible screen deposit by the Fabric Freshner Sheet also called Fleecy. This will allow air flow to exhaus the dryer more freely.

Crack in drum at seam

We had the exact same problem with our LG dryer but the crack was in the front near the door. The service tech as well as the engineer from the LG R&D department both agree that it is a manufacturing defect...the result of a poor welding job by LG. The service tech replaced the dryer tub today and the dryer is as quiet as when we first bought it. I paid for the part and the repair myself to get it fixed quickly. The service tech said to use it with the crack could be a fire hazard since the heating element is open under the tub. However, the service company we use will reimburse me for the cost of the part if LG agrees to reimburse them. I am in the process of working with the resolution department to get them to agree to pay for this part. It is no longer under warranty but since there engineer has agreed that it is a manufacturer defect, I am hopeful I will get my money back!

Dryer thumps when running, clothes get stuck...

It always helps if you list the brand and model number in your post. I would look at the seam on the drum to see if the weld has cracked. (right at the front and / or rear of the seam.)
