Camera will power-up only when connected to DC

I can not get my camera to power-up to take pictures use using battery power. The camera is dead unless I have it connected to the charger via direct current. When connected to DC the camera works fine. I have checked to make sure battery power is fine. I have taken it to National Camera exchange ...technician shrugs shoulders and says don't know what to tell you... but I have a great camera over here......

I really like the this camera but needing a long extension cord is quite unweildy... what should I do? Send it to Sony begging for help? or buy a new camera? any ideas? I have the same problem! I don't know what happened, it was working fine, and after having discharged, I plugged it in and charged the battery, and now with a fully charged battery (I have two!) it will only turn on when plugged in to the wall through the charger, otherwise it's stone dead! As a matter of fact, it won't even shut off anymore when plugged in!

I really need help with this also! I love this camera and I'm so sad that it's not working! All they told me at the camera tech place was "it's gonna cost you more to fix than to buy a new one", but without even being able to diagnose the problem...

Have you checked the batteries to make sure they are still viable?

  • Anonymous Oct 11, 2008

    This from Sony website:

To ensure the proper operation of the battery, please do as follows after charging the battery.
    (1) When charging by connecting the AC adaptor directly to the camera Please
disconnect DC IN from the camera after charging is completed. Also, it
is recommended to remove the battery from the camera when charging is
completed as the battery is discharged slightly even if the camera is
    turned off.
    (2) When charging with the supplied USB cradle If
the camera is installed in the USB cradle, please leave the power cord
connected to the outlet (when using the power strip, please leave its
switch to on).If you want to unplug the power cord (or switch off the
power strip) after the battery has been charged using the USB cradle,
please remove the camera from the USB cradle. Also, it is recommended
to remove the battery from the camera when charging is completed as the
battery is discharged slightly even if the camera is turned off.
    NOTE:
When you charge the battery by connecting the AC adaptor directly to
the camera or using the USB cradle, do not leave it with the power cord
    disconnected from the outlet.

Should it not work, continue with the manual reset procedure below:

        Turn off the camera.

Ensure the camera is not connected to an AC power adapter.

Remove the battery from the camera for 15 seconds.

        Reinsert the battery.

        Turn on the camera.
NOTE: If the issue is not resolved by performing a reset procedure, service may be required .

Hope that helps! Please don’t forget to "Accept"
the solution if it helped you in any way, or leads you to a fix.

Panasonic lumix dc vario can't download pictures onto computer

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program, such as Picasa.

My batteries went dead and camera shut off. Now I

if the camera wont turn on remove the memory card and make sure your pictures are transfered. Try using regular disposable batteries. Also when trying to turn it on try holding down the power button for 5 seconds. If it still doesnt turn on coud be a broken switch connection.

Will my ac adapter chardge my camera? I have the Olympus c-50 (zoom)

No. You do have the battery charger, right? If not, get one
FYI
When connecting the AC adapter to the camera’s DC-IN jack, be careful not to
catch the plug on the jack’s cover.
● If the battery power runs out while the camera is connected to a computer,
image data may be corrupted. It is recommended that you use the optional AC
adapter when transferring images to a computer. Do not disconnect or connect
the AC adapter while the camera is communicating with the computer. Or just make sure your battery is fully charged!
● Power is consumed continuously during the conditions described below.
This could reduce the number of pictures that can be taken.
•When the monitor is turned on.
•Repeated auto-focus by pressing the shutter button halfway.
•Repeated power zoom adjustments.
•When communicating with a computer.
● Do not remove or load the battery and/or do not disconnect or connect the
AC adapter while the camera is turned on. Doing so could damage the camera’s settings or functions.

My Kodak Easyshare V1233 will only power up when plugged into the wall charger. Even after staying on the charger it will not power on unless plugged in.

Kodak has 3 types of charger that can be connected to a wall socket
USB AC Adapter - is especially useful when traveling, away from your computer, or just plain on-the-go. Connect your camera's USB cable to the adapter and plug it into a wall outlet to conveniently charge your camera.
5V AC Adapter - Provides in-camera charging for all KODAK EASYSHARE M and V Series Digital Cameras
Input: AC 100-240 V 50/60 Hz Output : DC 5.0 V
3V AC Adapter - Provides direct power to your camera but it will not charge the camera battery
Input: AC 100-240 V 50/60 Hz Output : DC 3.0 V

* You need to check the type of adapter your using. If your using the 5V AC adapter or USB adapter and the camera won't charge the battery contact kodak support line 1 800 235 6325 (23KODAK) for possible repair.

I purchased the camera in April of 2007, but have only taken about 500 pictures. Today I turned it on, and when I tried to take a picture, the message "change the batteries" came up, and it went dead. I...

It is likely that an internal integrated circuit in the DC/DC board is damaged. Either an electronic component just is worn out, or moisture or humidity affected the camera. You can try with a different set of batteries (different brand and type) since such DC/DC converter board has a monitor circuit of the battery level, and when the components of it start failing, gives a wrong battery level to the micro-processor. If after try other batteries you have the same problem, then you will need to have your camera reviewed by a qualified technician to have it repaired, since it requires open the camera and evaluate the DC/DC board performance.

Camera will not work

Using the wrong cable can certainly damage a camera.

You don't say what "inoperable" means. I have sold and serviced many digital camera over the years. Dropping a camera will often result in damage to the lens assembly causing blurry/distorted pictures or the lens will not extend or close.

If the camera is completely dead or fails to boot then you probably used the wrong cable or connected it incorrectly and fried the internal electronics. This particular Gateway/Samsung camera can be fried if you connect or disconnect the USB cable while the camera is power on.

Sounds like you owe your friend a new camera.

Power cord and battery's support NO power to Video Camera

This incident happens often and damages the camcorder's power board. Replacing power board and some adjustment should resolved the problem. Your cost may run from $175-$225 in US for this model. Whenever you are transfering and connecting to pc, it is recommended to connect AC adapter power for this. Do not rely on a charged battery. Good luck.
