I have a Vizio P42 HDTV. It has been working fine till yesterday. Today, when I turned it on, there is no picture showing up, but audio was working fine. My TV is only two years old. and I think it is still good, I guess that this was because my kid press some button on the remote. Anyone ever had same problem?
Check for swollen or leaking capacitors on the power supply and video boards. They are cheap if you can find them. Practice soldering, Change the caps, and fuses if you can get them. Ignore the 'switch off, jump backwards, plug in', nonsense...

My P42 has same problem. Factory says it is the power supply to vidio.. They want me to pay someone to remove it. Then they want $162.00 to repair it (no new ones available). Looks like a 3 or 4 hundred dollar problem.
Gee maybe I'll run down to Costco and buy another Vizio, Right.

Try first unplugging power cable for thirty minutes, then plug back, this will drain power from TV completely and will reset it.
See if it works.

checkcthe manual to see if theere is nething mentioned about the remote having a seeting for audio w/o video
if u find it u may be able to check it
do u get the menu screen on the video or has the screen got completely blank...............
