First check to see if you're router is working as it should.
If it is contact your ISP server ie, comcast, verison.
If they say they can "see' your computer then the problem is with one of many of the privacy settings that are turned on on your software.
Which error message? It probably a windows security setting issue. I have problems connecting to my DLNA server if I do so and a network share rather then as a media server for the same reason.
It might be an issue with your SMTP servers. My mom was having the same issues on her iPhone with gmail. Receiving and unable to send. I deleted the gmail account then re-add it. Under the advanced settings in mail confirm the SMTP server is the correct one for gmail. Forget which one it was but you can google it. See if that does the trick for you. Worked for my mom.
