Cabrio Washer LD error code

I have a Cabrio washer and have been getting LD error. I took the pump out and the water came gushing out , the hose is free and clear so there are no plugs, but when I have it drain and rince, the hose jerks once but no water comes out, then the LD error comes back.

We had an authorized worpool repair man look at our machine. He told my wife that he could not repair the problem until we started using higrade washing detergent. We currently use ultra Tide. I thought Tide was good soap????? Whay kind of soap should I be using????????

  • soccer860 Oct 28, 2008

I get the LD error intermittently during wash cycles. The pump is clear as well as the drain tube. I can unplug the power for a few minutes and then rinse/spin or drain/spin and it will drain perfectly. It may or may not work fine the next wash, but the problem will return.

Is there water in the bottom of the tub? If yes then open back of washer and remove drain pump (on left side) and pull off of tub and clear whatever is blocking its impeller.
If the water is all gone and drained but pump stays on for several minutes and then gives "LD" fault then open back and check the small clear tube that is attached to the tub. Make sure is not blocked with debris and check tube and tub for anything that could block the small clear tube. If these are ok then remove 3 screws in back of the control panel, pull open control panel and check the clear tub all the way up from the tub to the washer controller board (computer) make sure it is not kinked or disconnected. If not then the problem is most likely the pressure sensor on the (computer). This unit will have to be replaced.
You can test the sensor by doing the following: 1. When the "LD" fault comes on start by pressing the pause button. then pull the clear tube off of the computer board. Then attach a tight fitting drinking straw over the sensor. Press the start button and wait for 60 seconds - If the washer does not start the spin cycle on its own after the 60 seconds then **** on the drinking straw that you attached to the pressure sensor earlier. The sucking action should reset the sensor thus telling the computer that the water is drained and it will start the spin cycle. Just remember if you have to do this to get the washer to spin - that means the sensor is damaged most likely from moisture traveling up the tube over time. The computer board will need to be replaced. I believe it costs $205 without shipping. Hope this helps.

This worked follow the instructions and save a repair bill. I had to have the computer replace too before this.

It appears that the pressure switch that monitors the water level is not working correctly. So I called Whirlpool and had them send me a new controller board. I replaced it and the machine works GREAT!

  • jeharris104 Jul 07, 2011

Thanks to all of the comments here, we were able to correct the ONE problem that we have EVER had with our Cabrio washer. I have had mine for 4 years and LOVE it!! The problem was indeed a safety pin that simply needed to be removed from the drain or hose or pump - I don't know. My man did it for me!! Thanks to all who took the time to post on this page so that the rest of us could save big bucks on a repair man. For the rest of you who do not like this washer, you must be doing something wrong or have a lemon. My washer is awesome....thanks to my man :-)

If there is no blockage replace the pump

  • kurticusgt May 30, 2011

I was having the dreaded “LD” error with my Whirlpool Cabrio (WTW6200S) and could not figure out on my own what the problem was. While searching from forum to forum I came away with a procedure for re-calibrating the pressure transducer in the washer and this solved the problem for me. I’ll list links to where I found the answers and the procedures below.
To do this you’ll need to run Test #6 of the troubleshooting tests; but you’ll first need to place the machine in Manual Diagnostic Test Mode.
    -----------------------------------------------------------
Activation of Manual Diagnostic Test Mode: (I only went as far as step 5)
Step 1. Turn machine off, leave plugged in
Step 2. Hold any button, (other than power, cancel or start) for 3 secs, release, hold 3 secs, release, hold 3 secs, release.
Step 3. 88 will flash and press the same button again within 5 secs or the machine will go into automatic test mode.
Step 4. Once you press the button a 2 digit console code will appear for 3 secs.
Step 5. If done correctly the display will read 00 and the add a garment indicator will flash indicating you are in manual mode. In manual mode the lid will not lock, so you can open the lid to verify the water from the valves.
Step 6. Fresh water valve test- Turn selector to Whites, push start, and select temp. Water should come out in the middle. Press start to stop the water.
Step 7. Detergent valve test- Turn selector to Heavy Duty, push start, and select temp. Water should go into the detergent fill cup. Press start to stop the water.
Step 8. Fabric Softener valve test- Turn selector to Normal, push start, and select temp. Water should go into the Fabric softener fill cup. Press start to stop the water.
Step 9. Bleach valve test- Turn selector to casual (perma press), push start, and select temp. Water should go into the Bleach fill cup. Press start to stop the water.
    Linkhttp://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/lau...
    -------------------------------------------------------------
Troubleshooting Tests: (I began at step 7)
This test checks the water level sensing components, and calibrates the pressure sensor.
    1. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
    2. Access the machine/motor control assembly. See Accessing & Removing the Electronic Assemblies.
    3. Check hose connection between the pressure transducer on the machine/motor control and the pressure dome attached to the tub. Check to ensure hose
is routed correctly in the lower cabinet and not pinched or crimped by the back panel.
    4. Plug in washer or reconnect power.
    5. Drain the tub until all water has been removed from tub.
    6. Remove all clothes from the machine.
    7. Calibrate the pressure transducer: See Activation of Manual Diagnostic Test Mode, and perform steps 1 and 2 until the display shows 00 and the Add
A Garment indicator LED is flashing. Press and hold the Cycle Signal button until a single beep sounds, and the display shows Pt to indicate zero calibration
has completed. Exit Diagnostic: Manual by pressing STOP or POWER.
    8. Select POWER • wash cycle NORMAL • START.
    9. Verify that the tub fills to the top of the impeller plate (impeller models), or to a level above the agitator vanes (agitator models), but much lower than the SUPER Load Size water level. If the water level does not fill to this level, replace the machine/motor control assembly. See Accessing & Removing
    the Electronic Assemblies.
    Link http://www.advantagesupplyfl.com/Whirlpo...
Once I completed the recalibration procedure, and machine worked just as it should. I’ll keep an eye on it, but so far so good. Hope this helps, good luck!

I had a ld code on my cabrio and was ready to junk it (three years old). However, I decided to give a repair a try. The drain pump was humming but the machine wasn't draining. I replaced the drain pump - fairly easy for the mechanically inclined. Turned out it was just a couple bobby pins sucked into the pump. Machine is running fine again.

I had to call a repair service a couple of months ago due to error code. When washer was ready to spin it stopped. They had to replace the brain of the washer. Cost me over $400.00 bucks. That was the second time it broke. The first time it wouldn't drain. Drain pump was replaced. Now it got an error code again today. I just sat and paused and started about 20 times and it finally finished my load. Will call repair on Monday. This is the worst washer (Cabrio top loader) I have ever purchased in my life. My moms 300.00 dollar roper from Lowes works better. The dry ...no problems yet (knock on wood) If yours wont drain or spin get ready to spend some cash for the repair. I always though Whirlpool was a dependable brand. Never again will I purchase them again.

Right, RIGHT! I agree. It's awful. I think we should form a posse and mandate new control boards for everyone! This is ridiculous. Of course, if we had time to form a posse, we wouldn't be repairing all these machines ourselves!

I have had my cabrio washer for 7 years and it has been fixed maybe 10 different times. Most of the time when they came out to fix it, I told them that on occasion I would get a LD code. Yesterday someone came out to fix it again ( thank goodness I keep buying the warranty ). He took out the tub and under that was the drain filter. It was full of green slim. He took that piece off, hose it off and my washer works great.

Out of desperation I hooked up my shop vac to blow into the drain hose... And it worked! The dreaded LD error is gone and it started working fine. I'm assuming all the pet hair got into the pump, but I can now wait a while before I have to do any real repairs.

I had the LD error code, but I pulled my pump and connected 120vac to it and it worked fine. I then checked the voltage at the connector that connects to the pump and it was an intermittent 140vac. If i pushed in on the wire going to the conector then the voltage stayed a solid 140vac. Guess what this means? It means a bad wire connection. To confirm this, i installed my pump back and when it went into drain mode, i pushed in on the blue wire going to the pump. And as i expected, the pump started working. So, be careful not to waste your money on a new pump or controller board without fully diagnosing the problem. I am either going to try and repair the wire connection or get a new wire harness.

Removing the tub from a cabrio washer:

I watched a YouTube video that showed how to use a car jack and a 2x4 to remove the tub. Can't remember what it was titled but it worked great and the tub came right out. Don't buy a fancy tool. This works

LD code...removed inner tub (stainless basket) with some difficulty, sprayed PB Blaster on bolt head enjoyed my morning coffee a bit...after about 15 minutes, was then was able to push down and then pull up a few times on it until it broke free from the driveshaft so I could remove it from the washer and access the plastic outer tub that surrounds the inner tub. Cleaned a washcloth and $1.30 (5 quarters & a nickel, no bills involved) from bottom of plastic tub that was partially blocking drain pump intake in the back right corner (as seen standing in the front of the washer with the entire top portion raised up), soaked up the water and slime in the bottom of the plastic tub. Had some difficulty getting stainless inner tub back over motor shaft (was clearing the splined portion of the shaft by a few inches, but was sticking below that at the top of the section that probably made it hard to get off in the first place) until I cleaned up some more rust/muck on the driveshaft and on inside of the inner tub...slid back on nicely after clean up and a little more PB Blaster spray, all good after buttoning things back up.

Wow! You guys were SO helpful! Also, I am having a devil of a time getting all of the parts out of the hub out of the inside of the basket to remove the basket on the H2LowCabrio(which has so many things wrong with it, and they all vary according to its mood! Control panel, lid switch, sensor, and then of course...one never knows if leaky seal, motor, sensor, or capacitor!)
! I am fairly sure there are three parts to the hub, and we have only gotten two out. Tomorrow I am gonna try to spray WD40 on the last piece to see if I can remove it this way. I use a toothbrush and combo of baking soda with vinegar splashed on it to remove a LOT of gunk that causes the parts to stick together. But this last piece of the hub WON'T budge! If I can't remove the hub, and I can't remove the basket/tub, I can't get to see if the seal needs replacing/bearings need replacing. (The electronic control panel is likely faulty, and the machine leaks water, so I wanna check the bottom of the tub.) Does anyone know of a video I can watch that shows how to remove entire tub/basket off rod, using the Whirlpool Cabrio H2Low model WTW5550XW0?

WHIRLPOOL CABRIO WASHER ERROR LD The Cabrio Washer LD error code stands for Long Drain which means the control has recognized the water in the tub is not draining fast enough during the cycle.
  1. Make sure the pump and drain hose are clear of debris that would cause a blockage.
  2. Check the impeller on the drain pump and make sure its not wobbly or busted.
  3. Remove the tub hose from the pump to the tub and check it for blockage.
  4. Make sure the pump is running when and getting the proper voltage when it should be.

Why does my washer wtw6200sw2 display an Ld code?

The Ld code is Long Drain. You might have a clogged hose. I had this problem once with mine. We had to empty the washer by hand and turn it on its front. Make sure you unplug it first! There is an elbow that I think was attached to the pump. We popped it off and it was clogged with dog fur (from washing dog bedding). Cleaned it out and put it back on and that took care of it. I found the diagram of the system online and suggest you look for it too - my memory isn't what it used to be - it'll tell you what to look for and where everything is. It could be the pump, too, but hopefully just a clogged hose.

Flashing LD on panel and beeping cabrio top loader washing machine

Ld Long drain Clogged/slow drain/pump

"LD" stands for "long drain," meaning it took an excessively long time for water to drain out of the washer. Common causes for this are kinked drain hose or clothing, like panties or socks, caught in the pump suction hose. Why, I've even heard of bra wires coming loose and getting stuck in that hose, collecting all sorts of gookus and pinching off the flow of water to the pump. Can you imagine? Yea verily, as surely as the Sacred Suds doth eternally pass my lips, the "LD" error code springs forth from such anomalies.

Hope helps.

LD is on my display-nothing will clear it and washer doesnt drain

the ld code means a long drain, what you probably have is something blocking the drain pump.
you can get to the drain pump from the back of the unit and it will be the pump on the left as you face the back.
you will need to remove the hose going into the pump and be ready for water to come out. sorry but you need to check inside the hose as there will be something blocking it. like a coin or some lint or a small sock.
when you get the item out of the hose then it should work again. you do not need to reset the control. once it knows the unit is draining properly it will be ok.

Whirlpool Cabrio WTW6600SW1: Won't drain

The washer drew half a tub of water on the "Bulky items" cycle, and stopped. All the lights on the cycle dial light up and flash, the machine beeps and the me error message in the "estimated time remaining" field is "Ld". I've tried to shut the machine down and change the cycle to "drain and spin" but it will not agitate, won't drain or spin.

I have a cabrio washer and keep getting LD error code, washer looks to drain fine but won't advance on to spin cycle - sits there for a few minutes trying to drain even though no more water is in tube,...

Friend,
ngfam1 At your service!
When it is a code the machine is telling you that there is a fault and the electronic system needs to be diagnosed by a trained tech.
My advise is,
You spent enough money buying that Cabrio to be experimenting and guessing and buying expensive parts for it!
Let the tech fix it 123 and your done. It may not have needed the drain pump and now that money could have covered the service call!
