I've been taking photos for almost a year now on my Olympus sp-550uz, occasionally deleting some when I run out of memory on my 1gb xd card. took one last pic before the camera began telling me to format and would not do anything but the format or shut off the camera. I formatted and lost all of my pics, but now the camera and xd card are working just fine..but NO pictures that I've been saving for a year, most of them NOT transferred to my mac computer. I've heard of recovery software. Does it really work? And did I do something to cause this to happen like overload my XD card? Thankyou, Dawn
Deleting or formatting won't make the data in xd card erased permanently.
Those deleted data is still stored on the xd card, it's just invisible or inaccessible. Only the FAT or NFTS table is erased (the information about where those data were saved), but the real data are still intact there in sectors of xd card .
So as long as those data are not overwritten by new data, it's highly possible to recover them. And the MOST Effective way is to rely on some format recovery programs.
Try asoftech data recovery program, which can recover data after deeply scanning your xd card drive to look for lost data you accidentally deleted or formatted.

Yes recovery software will be able to get it back "photorecovery" is really good just don't take any more pictures once the card is formatted or it will start to overwrite the old pictures.
Definitely Yes! Hello, EssieE! Don't worry. I recommend you to use this photo recovery software (also recover audio and video files); it can help you recover your lost pictures from your Digital Camcorder (or Memory Card):
For Windows Users -----> Photo Recovery Software
For Mac OS X Users -----> Mac Photo Recovery Software
Kind Suggestion: Before your pictures are retrieved, do not save more files to the device (or memory card) in case the original files (your pictures) are overwritten.
Best wishes!
Unfortunatly--you lost them for good. once reformatted, the pics were written over. if you had a mass storage device you could have transfered the pics to it and saved them all.
No recovery software can correct the lost pics issue. Cameras (that I know of ) do not have a failsafe storage to recover - like computers do.

I have not touched the card since it happened for fear of losing the photos. Did not format, but cannot get pics off it.
