I have a roper my whirlpool washing machine. Model# RTW4440VQ2. Serial# C00422098. TYPE 111-07 Everything works great until it try's to stop after spinning. When it's done spinning and the tub trys to stop going around it makes a loud bang bang bang noise. It doesn't matter how much or how little is in it. If I put my hand at the top of the tub with my husbands work glove on, I can slow the tub from spinning and stop the tub. Everything else works great. I have had it for 2 1/2 years. I am a single mom and I do not have the money to fix it because I am layed off as well. I am handy however, so if someone can explain what is wrong I will try to fix it myself. Please Help me.
I will go along with the braking system malfunction. Perhaps a part is lose (loose) and instead of grabbing, it just gets knocked into every revolution. Safety feature would stop the rotation when the lid is opened during any spin (between wash and rinse) but this 'slow down quick when finished' is not THE safety feature (which would require power I expect and there is no power after the timer finished its task.)
If a screwdriver won't fix it, and you don't want to buy new parts, remove the slowdown unit to cease the clanking. Everyone in the house should be educated about losing an arm with such a modification.
Does the tub move sideways. Try pushing the top of tub side to side at the top. There Is A Wedge That Clamps Tub To Spin Tube. Also try to turn tub with washer off, the brakes could be bad not grabbing. Sears parts direct has a good diagrams.

This model of washer has something called an Automatic Temperature Control. This means the washer puts water into the tub at specific tempreatures instead of just 100% cold, or 100% hot. Be sure and check that the hot and cold fill hoses are connected to the proper places on the back of the washer. It's possible that the ATC (mentioned above) is causing the washer to fill slowly on the cold setting.

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France @17:21 Fri afternoon,
Please do not take this the wrong way but- there is 'level' and there are ' all 4 feet supporting the washer equally'.
As your washer is only a year old I would not suspect (yet) any internal malfunctioning- so a close check on the 2 front feet is required- honestly!
With the machine not running, firmly (and I mean firmly) push one front corner diagonally to the centre of the machine to see if there is any rocking at all. If there is even the slightest movement the foot at that corner deeds to be adjusted downwards until it is almost (and I say 'almost') pushing the machine up but not doing so.
If it is not the first corner which moves then you need to do the same with the other. Once all 4 feet are equally supporting the machine ,it is necessary to also ensure that the locking nuts are screwed tight UP to the base of the machine to stop them from moving.
If, after really ensuring the machine does not move by the above BUT it continues to dance all over the floor, maybe part of the drum supporting mechanism is broken/malfunctioning.
So far I have not been informed of anyone NOT being successful at curing dancing by the 'feet' method! I hope you are not the first!!!
Good luck,
John C
