i have the same issue.  i was looking around on the hp website and found that mac os x is incompatible with 1310 series scanners, but everything else should work.  is the hp psc 1315 considered a 1310 series?

  • foreignaxcel Nov 27, 2008

I own a mac and an HP 1315xi printer/scanner. I have not been able to scan anything. For some reason my Mac can find the printer and use it to print, but when I try to scan a document even the HP software cannot locate my printer/scanner.

When I open the HP Device Manager it says: Error, scanner cannot be initialized. And I cannot scan at all.

To scan documents on Mac OS X using your HP PSC 1315, you need to download HP's "Device Manager" software which is available here : http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-41992-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=374572&os=219&lang=en

I just installed the software and am now scanning problem-free.

I had a similar problem using the HP PSC 1210 all-in-one. It would print after installing Mac OS 10.6.3 but I couldn't scan. - found the answer here:http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/docum...

HP PSC 1315 Does Not Scan under Mac OSX 10.6.3 Snow Leopard. It's been a very long time since the release of Snow Leopard, so the Retardos at HP should really come up with a real and definitive solution to their hardware. HP products will definetly Not be a part in my future Purchase List.

You didn't say what version of Mac OS X you're using. The Device Manager solution works up to Version 10.4. However, for Version 10.5, you're out of luck, according to HP. It says it does not support the PSC 1310 series (including the 1315) as well as several other lines:

I have an older hp 4500 all in one printer running with mac mavericks 10.9.5. Start printer. My system for scanning was to go to system preferences on computer. Click printers and scanners. Once screen comes up click on scan, open scanner, choose scan mode, flatbed or docs. Now type in paper size, usually 8.5 X11 inches. now to scan to mail, put format to pdf or jpeg to iPhoto. open mail or iPhoto screen and minimize. Now push scan at bottom of screen. Once scanned, maximize mail or iPhoto screen. This might work for other hp printers. This is not as easy as pushing scan button on printer but it does work.

've managed to get the scanning to work on Mavericks! Basically my all-in-one printer is the psc 1315 and the procedure requires installing SANE and HPLIP

The method explained below (in French) has worked for me:

http://www.smy.fr/apple/scanner-snow-leopard-10-6-imprimantes-hp-tout-en-un_205.html

I have a MacBook (with OS X 10.6.8) and a HP PSC 1315s scanner, and after following the instructions in the sixth paragraph (on the page above), the scanner function is now working again. (The idea -- if I understand it correctly -- seems to be to have the most recent version of the HP drivers installed, but then to overwrite certain parts with an older version.)

If you go onto hp you can download the install drivers. I only just did that today. I have a mac osx v 10.5.5 and a hp 1315 all-in-one. you can download the software for it, the only problem is that its not in english. If you do download it, just play around with the software until you have a general idea of what to press. When you download the software you can find the scanning utility and when its stopped scanning you just click and drag your file onto your  desktop.

HP PSC 1315 and Vista, to scan a text, not a picture

Just to try....

The Scanner software should have an option to choose image or text, image and text etc.. Look for that first.

Do a scan but before you do and run through the process as you normally would.

Put the printer/scanner CD in the carriage cancel auto-start. My HP different type but... does not always see/grab ALL of the scanner files on an install. Sometimes however, it will go looking for the files it needs and grab them off of the CD when it actually NEEDS them. When you try to actually to the scan. Otherwise the printer probably works perfectly right.

If you want to check it out just for the sake of it. Look in Windows explorer - control panel and see if there is actually a scanner listed or just a printer? Good luck!

Unable to scan document via all in one hp psc 1315 printer/scanner

It is possible that the Program is running in the back ground, with out you knowing. Open the Task Manager ( press ctrl+alt+delete at the same time ) and select hpqdirec.exe then End task, (if you see this more than once in the list close all). then retry scanning. I might would suggest reinstalling the program.
