Faulty fusing unit - error display
You can reset the fuser using the Service Programme Mode - easier than messing with springs! You can find all the details here.

If I remember correctly this hard drive has about 8 partitions in it. Some of the harddrive is used for document storage. Use the Ricoh RPCS driver from Ricoh-USA.com. There should be a drop down box somewhere in the properties box to store the document instead of printing. Most of there machines have that feature. Do not store important docs here, if the drive goes bad ....Bye,Bye docs.
SOURCE: Ricoh Aficio AP3800c--message to replace black
Are you sure you replaced the PCU and not the development unit? When you replace a PCU on the 3800, there is a fuse or tab that tells the copier it has a new PCU. If you put a brand new black PCU in the machine and it didn't recognize it, chances are that PCU was damaged. You can either keep running the machine and ignore the message, or try to replace the PCU with a new one again.

i can get the printer to state ready by turning the blue gear level on the fusing unit and restart the printer, but it will only print one page and then revert to as before, also i auto adjust and manually adjust fuser through maintenence, but once it prints sheet, it reverts back to same old story. **** these machines !!!! :(
ok, got it sorted, there is a small spring inside the fuser, which has to be reset back into place, which closes off a circit, which tells the printer that a new fuser unit is installed. The printer will then set the counter back to zero, which counts the number of sheets that passed through the fuser unit. It then just takes you through the automatic fuser adjustment process, in the maintenance section. I reset the spring in my old fuser, and now it is working like new. The guys who sell you second hand ones dont know to reset the spring, and your printer will just think the old one is still in place, and keep up the error sign. :))
