Whimsical dvd player

I get my DVDs from Netflix so I am assuming they are legal. I play them for half hour intervals while I do my exercises. The DVDs will play for several days and then I will get the message: This type of disk cannot be played. I have to take the disk out, put it back in and then sometimes it will recognize the disc and start all over again so I have to deal with the previews and trying to find where I left off the day before.Sometimes it will just keep giving me this message even though it HAS played the DVD for several days. Is there a fix for this?

SOURCE: Plays CDs but not DVDs

Melisha, I had a similiar problem. Go into the onscreen menu with the remote using the "ACTION" button on the bottom left of the remote. Using the arrow keys in the center of the remote, move to the menu for the audio processing. It will have menu items for DTS, Dolby Digital etc. Change the menu parameters for the "Down conversion" to "yes", get out of the menu mode and see if your DVD works again. If not, make sure there is no DVD or CD in the player, and press the "open/close", "pause" and the double left pointing arrow buttons all at the same time for about 5 seconds until the display on the DVD player says "INITIALIZE". This resets your machine. I hope this helps you.

Just unplug it and let it sit for half an hour. Then try playing the lens cleaner disc, the problem would be fixed....

SOURCE: Not Playing DVDs any more.

Get a laser cleaning disk, and follow through with the instructions about how to clean the laser with it.

If you are able to remove the DVD player drive, you can manualy clean the laser.

If cleaning the laser does not fix the fault, then this means that there is a failure somewhere else in the drive, or the laser itself is defective. Most of the time, these drive's are not worth servicing.

Same here! It would say something along the lines of "this type of disc cannot be played. please insert a different disc." it's the appropriate dvd region, i've tried all types of dvds, and it still won't work. the vhs and cd still works, it's just the dvd player that won't.

I can not play dvds, cds ok

Assuming that you mean that you cannot play dvd movies, you need software to play dvds.

You can download a free dvd player but you have to be careful about free software, sometimes they contain hacker tools

write the publishers - they're using more complex methods of preventing people from legally watching their legally purchased DVDs on anything other than sanctioned standalone players.

DVD won't play

Netflix doesn't know what they're talking about. I looked it up - your DVD player doesn't have an autoplay feature. Can you try the DVD on another DVD player. Computers DVD drives generally read them differently - and decode them differently, than a regular DVD player. Also, if your DVD drive is a writable drive, it will have a stronger laser than your DVD player. I think it's likely the disk is damaged, slightly. If you cleaned your DVD's laser, it might be able to read it well enough to play - or it might not. I started having problems like this with a few of my own DVDs before my DVD player's laser went out. Basically it's a combination of laser quality and disc quality. If it remains just this one disk, I'd suggest leaving it alone. But if you start running into this problem on other disks as well, you'll probably want to have the laser replaced in your DVD player.

My dvd always shows "system error" and won't play commercial copyright dvds, only recorded ones.

I had the same problem with my recorder except that it wouldnt play any discs at all.. I finally unplugged the recorder and left it unplugged for 16 hours. Now it is fine. I am not getting any error messages.
