How do you set the cannn 500d to date stamp pictures that you view

If you want to see the date /time info while viewing the pictures on the camera, you can change the display settings, press the DISP button, till you see a smaller picture and the date and time on the bottom of the screen.
If you want the date and time printed on a picture, you should use the pict bridge option from the camera and in the setup you should chose the setting for that. See page 165 and following from the manual.
But the simple timestamps of the yellow or orange stamps like in the older digital cameras, won't work.
Because the camera keeps a all information stored in the EXEF part of the picture, it won't destroy the jpeg it produces. If you really want the date and time imprinted, you should use a program on the computer, to use the date and or time info and brand it in the picture, before saving it.
Be aware all pictures do have the date and time info in them and most viewers on the computer (whatever OS) will show the info when asked, anyway.

I want Date & time stamp on pictures

Hello and Welcome
To set the date and time stamp on pictures, Follow the given instructions:
  • Power on the FUJIFILM FinePix J28 digital camera and wait for the hardware to finish running through its start mode
  • Press the "Menu" button on the rear of the device, then choose "Setup."
  • Select "Options," followed by "Date." This brings up the date display. The display blinks as it has not yet been set.
  • Push the top button on the control display to advance the first number in the date. Once you have the correct number selected press "Enter" and repeat the process for all the numbers. When the date is set the time information appears. Follow the same procedure to set the time. Press "Enter" to accept the changes. Manual too difficult

It seems to me, after reading the Operating Instructions, that it's not possible to stamp the photos automatically while taking them (EXCEPT for when stamping TRAVEL DATES - see below).
What you can do is enter the Play mode, the stamp the photos manually- 1 to 50 photos at a time.
To do this, kindly look on pages 66-67 for detailed instructions (with illustrating images).

Be sure to set the correct time and date prior to stamping the photos. Look on page 16 for further instructions.

If you're taking pictures during traveling, you can set TRAVEL DATE, which will also have a reference to the day number of your travel (page 48).

Hope you'll find my information useful...
Good luck,
Pelu.
