Compaq presario 2500 does not boot

Hi there,
do you still see the compaq logo and does it show you the windows boot up screen before it goes blank?
OR
do you see anything on the screen at all after pressing the power button?
Check if the laptop is receiving power. If it has power and you can't see anything on the screen it could mean that the LCD assembly or the Video card of your laptop is bad.
If it goes to the compaq screen and then to windows logo before going out, try booting into safe mode and once there uninstall the video driver from the device manager because that means the resolution was set to something higher than the display could handle.
If it restarts after showing the compaq screen try reseating the memory, hard drive and wireless card of your computer put them one by one and try turning the compter on after each part you put back to check which component is point of failure.
Otherwise you have a bad motherboard and it may have to be replaced.

You can try restoring the computer back in time when date isn't yet present using system restore. I suggest you do it in Safe Mode, you can access that by tapping F8 as soon as you turn the PC on( I mean as soon as you press the power button). You will see a bunch of options, please select Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Networking. Then once you booted to Safe Mode, please perform a System Restore. Hope this helps.

computer is freezing could be the memory, but more likely a conflict with the Operating System. Try to boot with f8 in safe mode and see what happens

Reboot the computer > when you see the Compaq name appear, tap the F8 key until you see a black screen with boot choices appear. The first ones on the list are "Safe Mode", what you want is "Safe Mode with Networking", this way just a limited amount of drivers loads including your networking and internet. If you do get booted up, try to get to www.filehippo.com and download "MalwareBytes Malware Remover", install this and do a quick scan and remove anything it finds. You may also try to boot off the windows installation disc and choose the repair option for windows.

click f5 before xp starts to load. choose halt on error and record code. google that code. most often it is a bios error after a new install (memory...etc.) sometimes you can boot into safe mode to undo a recent change. if all else fails reinstall...could be bad hard drive boot sector also.....check code first

It could be your hard drive problem. Which I called it, "Crash." I would suggest you try to format the hard drive and reload the operation system with your installation CD.

go to the Bios setup and set the first booting device as CD drive and it will check the CD first

try to disable start up items that are not required...for that u have to boot in safe mode and type msconfig in Run

Sounds like VIRUS on BOOT Sector

Is it a laptop? conenct it to a monitor, see if that works, then u know it might be the LCD.
