Can I fix a fried amp?

I was hooking up a compaciter and didnt realize the compaciter had a charge stored in it. When tring to hook up to my amp, it touched the chassis of my amp and the amp has ceased to work. Checked all four external fuses hoping it just blew one of them, but they are all fine. Is there anyway I can fix it inexpensively because I have no warranty on the amp.

I have an explode amp that recently stopped giving any output,i was not using a fuse from the battery but the fuses on the outside of the amp are still intact and the power light still turns on,is there any way the amp could blow without the fuses blowing?

Hi, how good are you with electronics? Are you able to open up the amp and see any obvious problems? I suggest that if your not very good with electronic circuits, get a professional to have a look at it, as if you damage it more by trying to fix it your self, it will probably cost you more to fix it. It may be as simple as an earth track been burnt, but even that in most cases will force you to completely disassemble the amp to find the problem. It may also be the diode right next to the power supply terminals that may be damaged and in some cases that can cause problems. Let me know if you open the amp, if possible post some pics and will see if there is something obvious that stands out. Cheers

Many amps have a zenor diode in them that will protect the amp in the event of a short this diode is cheap and easy to replace. take the amp apart and look between the positive and neg rails on the board it will be there any one that sells them can test them if yiur multimeter does not have a diode check feature.

The first thing you did wrong was buy a sony explode...those guys need to stick to making televisions, secondly ALWAYS have a fuse no more than 3 feet from your battery, between that and the one(s) on your amp it would be impossible to damage your amp. Also ALWAYS disconnect the neggative cable from your battery when you do any tinkering with the wires on your amp.

SOURCE: Amp not working

my friend your amp could be getting power that does not mean that it is working.the power only goes to certain point but because your regulator or other related component is defected your amp power supply will not work until the defect is corrected.take it to a tech and have your set repaired.good luck.

SOURCE: amp light is on but doesn't put anything out to my subs

if you are sure its the amp. the problem is internal. but if your not sure, try a different stereo or source of sound to the inputs of the amp. if there is still no sound than it is the amplifier and it could be a number of things.

SOURCE: i have 4/3/2 ch. alpine f-240 amp- i want to hook

run two 6x8s on each of the front channels of the amp. then depending on the sub you can bridge it on the rear channels.only if its a single four ohm. if its a dual 2 ohm sub run each coil on each channel. 1 coil-1channel. the other coil-the other channel. amp should run fine may run a little hot since it will be doing all it can do at a safe ohm load. just make sure it is mounted in a well vented area. should be safe.

Hooked up battery backwards on my 1992 ford explorer. Got it running now the alternator isn't charging the battery. Has 12 volts power. Could it be the points on alternator where the wiring hooks into...

The battery needs 12.6 volts or more to be in service
When the engine is running you need 14 volts or more
out of the alternator to charge the battery
You can test the alt by testing across the battery term
or the alt output wire & ground to case or motor
Could be the diodes got fried & you need a new alt
Have it tested at parts store, if you can't figure it out
Check all fuses & fusible links first

I hooked my battery up backwards now the ignition won't turn over when I turn the key. It also sounds like its not getting fuel

hooking up backwards basically fries everything first take the starter and get it tested you problly fried the solenoid but pray you didnt fried your igniton switch on the car and as for the fuel you most likley poped the fuse pray that it is the fuel beacuse a new fuel pump can cost ya a good amount

Shuts off when the volume gets turned up didnt do this wen new

A mono amp usually can handle only two 4 ohm subs. You see when you hook up two subs in parallel it drops the ohms too 2 ohms and 3 in parellal drops it to 1 ohms overheating the amp and cause power failure. Unless you bought a Mono amp thats 1ohm stable. But still I've seen cheap 1 ohm stable amps not last long. Also possible your subs are fried too check them with a multimeter and measure each sub ohms.

My amp settings was all the way up...and i didnt even realize it... i messed up 2 of my 15s pyle drivver subs...is there any way i can open up the sub and fix it up or something? appreciate it if someone...

If your subs quit working then chances are you fried the voice coil and while anything can be repaired it most likely isn't worth the money you'd pay to have them fixed.

Xm-2002gtr amp keeps kicking protect light on

check your amp and speakers and make sure their both hooked up 4 ohm instead of 2 ohm because if you have 1 set of voice coils on your speakers they can only be hooked up four ohm and not bridged to your amp because if you keep trying this you will lock up your speakers if the speakers are only 4 ohm than just hook them up regular to each channel on your amp if your trying to brigde four ohm speakers to your amp it will keep going into protect or worst case scenario you will fry your speakers and you can check your ohm with a ohmmeter trust me my brother owns a stereo shop
