I bought a used Pioneer DV-2012K from B&H. Although it is described as a multi-region DVD player it won't play a DVD from India. After loading it displays "DVD-Video" on the TV but won't proceed further. I don't have the manual to play with the settings. The back of the player shows "3" which I suspect is for region 3. Please help.
You can get a region free player program on your computer and then you will be free from the region code issues. You could try Leawo Blu-ray Player which is a free Blu-ray player and you could use it to play any DVD and Blu-ray discs.
The manual will tell you how to change the zones.
SOURCE: Hack wanted to enable multi region
1) Go to the Preference page in the Setup menu
2) Press 1 3 8 9 3 1 on the keypad of the RC. I had to hold each number down for 2 or 3 seconds.
3) Options will be available to be selected. Select 0 using up/down on remote.
4) Player is now region free.

I think that the general unlock is:
Open disk drive> press 1,2,3,4 on remote> close disk drive
Worked on mine.
Hope it helps,

SOURCE: multi region code for philips hts 3090 dvd player
With your set on and without disc in the tray:
1. Press PLAY from your remote control
2. Press the following button sequence: 1590 2379 390
3. Press PLAY again
This will release the region verification in your home theater (region free). However, some DVDs (multiregion in particular) will not play, since they require region detection from the player unit.
I've done this to my 3090 and been using it like this for 3 years.
