Question about GE WHRE5260E Top Load Washer

1 Answer

My washer fills with water but does not agitate. Does drain and spin cycle works. How do you begin disassembly of washer to access inner workings? can't see any easy way to gain access. Only thing I can see is removal of bolts in back and bottom that may allow the whole shell to be lifted off washer chassis. Any thoughts on cause of problem or disassembly directions?

SOURCE: My washer does not wash the clothes or go through the spin cycle.

It sound like a belt problem. Try to move tub manually first, in case it move smoothly -open the front panel, the belt should be between the motor and the drive pulley (lower front). In case it torn or not in its place, you should replace it. In case it doesn't move smoothly - maybe that a sock or other piece of clothing get between the clothes tub and the outer tub and prevent tub's spining. If this is the situation, it should be removed. Good luck !!

SOURCE: fixn my GE washer spin cycle

you are correct, the "leak" was from the over flow, and the "no spin" were all caused by the incorrect level indication. could not blow out the tubing so I replaced it...everything works fine now. thanks for your help!

SOURCE: washer machine not draining water

the problem is easy to fix, take the front cover of your washing machine off, bottom right is the pump. make sure you have all the water u can get out of it out. take the drain hose loose from the pump. ( the drain hose that connects to the tub, not the out going drain hose.) it might be stopped up in the fins of the pump. that is what happened to mine.....hole in a pillow let the stuffing loose in the washer and clogged up my pump at the fin. thanx roger

Well it is ethier Belt, Cluch ,motor ,Or transmission. But it does sound like your transmission . The loud clunk is the brake in the gear case ( Trans.). It might have broken off.

My wahser just stopped working it filled with water and then started agitating and then all the sudden stopped please help

When the cycle doesn't advance, it's probably the timer or a cold-water supply problem:

  • It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer.

  • It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water

Spin cycle does not work. Lid switch works, fills with water , agitates, pumps out ok, but no spin. I have heard there is a kit for the transmission.

To begin there should be a good coupling between the motor and transmission, would assume it is ok as it agitates. Also there should be the motor running in drain and spin on the timer as it is draining and you say the lid switch is ok. The coupling or a bad lid switch are the most common problems on this washer. (a good washer)

The kit you are referring to is called the neutral drain kit, which is fairly simple with instructions. To install it(parts go under top gear in the transmission) however you have to pull the transmission.Suggest also changing the gear case oil but it is your washer. Also before you go this far would pull the agitator(7/16 bolt on top) and check the tub block is not stripped on the spin tube where the two tabs are on the top of the tube. You will pull this out anyway if you decide to disassemble and pull the transmission. When you pull the transmission you will have access to the clutch(if it spins empty but not with a load you need a clutch)

Quite old admiral mega 22 plus topload washer. the machine did not agitate after filling up. I tried various points on the 3 cycle types and it did not spin either. My son tried moving the agitator and...

Yes sounds like you have now disturbed the seal and will need a new one, remove the agitator and inner drum to get at the seals, to remove the agitator pull off the softner cap and remove bolt form down inside.
To remove the inner drum, the top part of the washer needs to be hinged back to gain access, to do this insert a flat balde 4" from each side at the seam with the front panel to release the clips, lid will now hinge back to give access to the drums, on the outer dum there are clips all the way round to remove the top section of the outer drum release these. remove the bolts under agitator to remove the inner drum. you should have access to the seals but it has been a while.
Reason for not agitating in first place is probably the water level switch at the rear of the drum with a small 8mm hose connecting it to the drum.

My washing machine is not changing cycles. It fills, drains and refills. It sat unused for 1 year. 12 months ago it was working fine.

Hi there. I can help you.

If this is the case, turn off the water and remove the hoses. Check both hoses to be sure the filter screens are not clogged with crud and that the hoses aren't kinked.
