I have a Samsung HLR5067WAX/XAA - it has been working great with no problems until just a moment ago. I was watching a show and there was a loud POP and the picture went dark immediately. Right after this happened (or maybe WHEN it happened) there was a strange high pitched sound fading in and out and I was having trouble turning the set off. The sound continued until I finally unplugged it and when I put power back to the set there are 3 lights flashing on the front power button. The lights are "Timer/Lamp/Stand by Temp". Any ideas? Bulb? Is it normal for there to be no warning prior to such an event?

sounds like the color wheel has gone bad..the part is not very expensive but it takes some work to replace it

First. Turn on the set and see if the Lamp Illuminates, If so then you have a bad Color Wheel. If the Lamp does not light up, you have a bad lamp.
Take out the lamp and look to the center of the lamp. If you see broken glass inside you have a bad lamp.

The 120 Watt lamp is probably losing High pressure Sodium and will need to be replaced. Lamp Code BP96-00826A (P120W)
Would be the first thing to replace.
