As for the black screen, I get no kind of reaction while the tv is powered on. It just stays black. As for the sound, I hear nothing at all. No popping or anything like that. There was no pop before I experienced this problem. It was working the night before. When I went to turn it on the next morning. Nothing but the Vizio light on the front seemed to be working. Also, I CAN turn the power back off using either the remote or power button and the Vizio light goes back to amber. I tried all the troubleshooting steps to no avail. I got this tv for free, so if I need to replace a whole board, I am still money ahead. I would just like to have someone point me to the most likely culprit. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Fault at its main digital board. Short circuited component/s at it. Contact any service technician; or the authorized service center. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ In most cases, the main board might have to be replaced. If so, a software [firmware] update too might be necessary.

Your message is pretty old but I'll give you my un-copywrited spiel anyhow;
If it just fails to turn on, the
main power supply is probably at
fault and without some technical background and a couple of test instruments,
you will not be able to do the repair yourself.
What you can do though is; unplug the set, let it
stand overnight or at least several hours, remove the back panel and look for a
separate board with mostly larger components on it; it will have a ferrite core
transformer on it and several larger capacitors which are cylindrical and
mounted vertically to the board.
Before touching anything inside,
especially on that board, allow several hours to be safe since the larger
capacitors can hold a painful voltage charge for some hours.
If you see signs of overheating
such as discoloration of the board material, it may not be repairable but if
you can find a part number on the board, you might be able to buy the power
supply and install it yourself.
If there are no signs of heat
damage to the board, there may be companies offering to repair it as a
subassembly instead of repairing the whole set which could be much more
expensive.
If you choose to replace or have it done, the power supply still may not be at fault since most
are capable of switching on and off if a downstream problem is causing an
overload.

For the cheap guy like me who will probably do more harm than good:
Also check for the F3 Fuse on that same main input board. It is located in the upper right corner. Hard wired fuses; very small. You will see F1-F4 (F4 is empty). You can solder a replacement fuse right over it. I would recommend piggybacking the fuse with a fuse you can replace. Will need the holder and a new fuse. 6 bucks.
Doesn't solve problem, but I can go another 2 1/2 years and the wife won't blame me for screwing up the TV in the first place.
