Sony 42" grand wega LCD

Have pink polka dots in the middle of the screen AND now the entire left side is a BEAUTIFUL cobalt blue. HELP!!!!

I have had my 50" Grand Wega for a little over two years, my pink spots started about six months ago just a few in the center, now they are scattered evenly and it seems that more appear weekly.....They are very annoying and extremly visible on light or white backgrounds. Has anyone had any luck getting Sony to respond? I have seen other blogs where this seems to be a growing problem. They are unwilling to take responsability for this problem, all I get is a runaround. they claim that it is optic block. one person said they would cover it, another said they won't. noone at their customer service know's what they are doing. any help would be appreciated. Pink squiggly lines in the bottom right hand corner. Started small and has increasd in size( like a squiggly cloud). We have tried turning the TV off and on, and unplugging the antenna. We also unhooked the TV from a reciever and unplugged the stereo and gaming system so that no other electronics are connected. Pink squiggly lines in the bottom right hand corner. We had the same problem with pink and green spots, called Sony and they are sending out a repair rep to evaluate. If it is the optical block thye will replace no chage. We will see. I have the 50 inch model, bought March 2005. The pink spots started in the summer and got worse over time. I now have yellow and blue spots starting. I called Sony who gave me a number of a technician in my area to call to have them assess the problem. The company sent a report to Sony. I got a call from Sony advising the report indicates it is environmental due to dust or smoke from the fire place. Should note I do not have a wood fireplace as the one he would have seen is electric. Sony advised that this would not be covered under the extended warranty, however are offering me a new TV kdl52w3000 for a cost price of 1000.00 (sells for around 3000.00). I asked them why they would do this if was not covered under warranty and they advised "just good will". I advised them that if it was dust it still relates to the optic block as it is their flaw design to not have this covered, protected from dust (new models are so dust does not get in). Everyone has dust in their house. They advised me to contact the technician again. I did this and I have to take another picture of the screen with a white background and a black background.........I will keep you posted as to what happens. I have the same problem. I also have blue dots along with the pink. I own the KF60WE610 60in tv. It started out with one pink dot and now they are everywhere. I called the service center and they don't think that Sony will cover this problem yet. Please let me know if anyone hears more about this problem

I have the same problem. Does replacing the bulb (which is recommended after 3 years) take care of the pink spot problem? When I watch an ice hockey game and it's very noticeable. Hey all, I have the "pink fingerprints" problem that so many seem to have on my kdf-50we655. Had the tech out yesterday to look at my set. He told me it was dust on the optic block and cleaning it ($350) often made it worse in his experience. He told me optic block replacement would be around $1150. I asked him about the "blue star" problem that sony is now covering the cost of and he said "oh yeah that's your set isn't it?." He then called in my pink spot problem and added some "blue spots"to my problem and it's getting fixed for me for just the $100 service call fee which I am ok with. hope this helps someone. we shouldn't be stuck in the middle of having to buy a new tv after 3 years because of a known design flaw. I have the same issue pinkish spots mainly in the middle of the screen. Just replaced lamp and then really noticed. talked with our local sony authorized repair center they told me it would cost $150 to clean out dirt in the optics. I can tell you all right now, its not "dirty optics". It is the inside of the first of two layers of the screen. When I got my 42", it was a display model and the spots were noticed immedtiately. It was under warranty, so Sony replaced the screen. 3 years later, new spots...no warranty, so I decided to open'r up and take a look. I DO NOT recommend this...the layers of the two screens are placed together in a clean room....unless your house is in a bubble..you will get a dog hair or two because of static. So anyways...I used a dry cloth to wipe the inside of the first layer (which is the back of the side facing out)...and I used a dry cloth on the inside of the second layer. Keep in mind..I was not able to see any of the spots holding up either piece to a light source. After cleaning the inside of both pieces..I wet cleaned (water on wash cloth) the back of the second layer and windexed the mirror...which was disgusting. After ALL this work and 3 hours later, the spots were now pinkish purple....so I either made it worse or I was making it better but didnt do enough. I am calling Sony on Monday and complaining about the absolute junk of a screen they put in such an excellent television. Hope this helps out. I can tell you all right now, its not "dirty optics". Have like pink clouds even with a black and white movie, it is slowly getting worse. Too bad it gets such a great HD picture. Sony said to call a Tech as my warranty ran out. I'm going to call sony and report it.

Called Sony--Reps don't seem to know much--talked to Supervisor--this is supposed to be covered under the Extended Recall through December 2008, but they could not answer this question: Is the replacement optical block of the same design and so will it go out in another 2-3 years? If so, then what--we are stuck?

Sears is due to come for evaluation tomorrow and I am going to video tape the whole process, so that, in 3 years, maybe we can just do it ourselves???

Have exact same issue, bought Grand wega 42', years later spots arrive, talk to sony, they say maybe the speakers are too close. And unplugged unit for a couple hours. Did.nt work, warrenty is out. And I got ripped off in this deal. The sony receiver is another issue. Bu other than that I dont klnow hwat to do. EVERYONE CALL SONY- SONY HAS EXTENDED ALL OF OUR WARRANTIES. i have this same problem with my 60" wega. i called sony and they explained to me that the problem was the optical light box. it cost a grip to fix even for them...so instead of fixing the problem they offered me the best true flats they had at way less than the actually price. i bought a 46" bravia for less than 550 including tax. i still have my 60" but until i get it fixed on my own this 46" will definitely do. i hope this helps you all
