Hi!
I own a Toshiba Qosmio F-30, a year old. Yesterday, all of a sudden, my screen went blank. I shut down my comp using the power button and then rebooted. I get the Qosmion sign clear, but when Windows XP tries to load, blue horizontal dashes appear and then my screen goes blank. I tried loading Windows in Safe Mode, and it works, albeit the dashes r seen, to some extent, but Windows does start, just not in the normal mode. Can anyone help me pls.
I have the exact same problem with my laptop. After not using it for one week, the laptop worked fine again for another week. But then last night the same thing occurred again. Any suggestions?

It's probably the backlight. If you look very closely, perhaps using a flashlight, you might be able to see that it is still working but just not being lit up from the back. In that case it may be worth fixing, but if not, then it's probably past its useful life.
One other thing you might try is a different power supply.
First of all try this. Turn the laptop off and remove the battery. hold down the power button for 30 seconds. Plug just the AC mains power jack in and turn the laptop on. If it boots all is well, turn the machine off, put in the battery.
Just out of interest can you remember who manufactured the BIOS? was it Phoenix or AMI?
first try to reattch all coneection to your televison. then open the back side cover of your tv then reattch all connectiuon there . Also clean dust from all circuit.
My understanding is that you have 2 laptops with the same problem, if that is the case, you need to replace the lcd. When you have lines on lcd's, that is a sign of a bad lcd.
could be 2 main causes, either the LCD converter under or behind the screen under the beizel has failed and is messing up the display, or simply the sreen could have been cracked at one point, either way these parts have to be obtained from toshiba.. EMPR do toshibas spare parts, if you are in australia
Hi,
From your post/description, I believe it can only be either the memory or the graphics chipset. Since most laptops share the memory with the video/graphics, you may want to check it out first. Turnover your laptop (upside down). Locate the memory which normally is/are under a flap/cover/lid held by a screw or two. Gently remove the screw(s) and pry it open. Inside will be 1 or 2 memory sticks, gently reseat, remove/reinstall, clean the ends/connectors and try the machine again. If you have the same problem and you have 2 memory, try one at a time at different slots. The memories are held on both sides by simple locks that you have to move slightly away from the memory to free the memory. Soon as they are apart, the memory normally springs up a bit for easy removable.
I the memory reseating does not work, try if you can borrow similar memories. It may also work bringing the entire laptop it to a comp store and try buying new memories. Pls explain your issue first so that when they try the new memory and you still have the same problem, you need not buy.
If all tries with the memory did not work, am afraid that it might be the graphics/video chipset. Some new laptops have an add-on video card type while other are the standard built-in to the motherboard. If it is the former, then you may probably have it replaced. If it were the latter, it may not be economically reasonable to replace the entire motherboard.
Hope this gives you some idea. Good luck and pls post again how things turn up. Kind regards.
