LSQ9549LW2 Whirlpool washer

The agitator has no turning power to speak of, and I can turn it left and right by hand with no effort at all, and even while it is washing, any idea's it is also making a nois and smells like something burning or melting. Thank you. [email protected] [email protected] 630-460-2095 (Fred)

SOURCE: Funky smell from working Whirlpool Ultimate Care II

ive experienced a smell, somewhat electrical in nature. when the motor is over worked,, restricted incoming power supply, or simply a fluky one time issue and never repeated again.. generally the motor overheats and trips off on overload, shuts off temporarilly and then restarts with no sign of problem.i guess it would be possible that perhaps theres something stuck between the tubs and at high speed spin causes friction against the tubs causing a smell, but not likely cause that usually heard, or prevents unit from spinning at all. other then checking your incoming power supply for at least 110v. probably not much else to look into. Obviously its not my house, and if it was to happen again or with any sorta frequency, call someone in to look at.

SOURCE: slow agitating

Sounds like a failure in the gear case but the burning smell makes me wonder if you have a problem with the motor. You will need a appliance tech to verify

Machine not agitating

The most common cause for the agitator not spinning is a broken drive belt. If you are able to turn the agitator by hand, the belt is likely broken. If the agitator cannot be easily turned by hand, there is likely a piece of clothing jammed underneath and the agitator will need to be removed to clear the jam. The video below will demonstrate the procedure for replacing the drive belt in most Whirlpool washers.

How to replace the belt on a whirlpool duet washer

To replace the drive belt on a Whirlpool Duet washer, follow these steps:

1. Unplug the washer and remove the rear panel.

2. Place the drive belt on the drive motor pulley with the ribbed side on the drive motor pulley. Leave a one-groove gap between the belt and the end of the pulley.

3. Take both hands and pull straight up on the belt and place on the drum pulley beginning on the left hand side.

4. Hold the belt firmly in place and slowly turn the pulley to the right while holding the belt in place. The belt will eventually align and hold in place on the drum pulley.

NOTE: This may require some effort to get the belt in place.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

Agitator not agitating

Replace agitator dogs, which should be available at your local appliance parts store for around $10. Replacement takes about 20 minutes (for a Whirlpool washer, at least.) Remove the center filter and you'll see a bolt (11 mm in the Whirlpool.) Remove the bolt, which you may be able to do with hand-turn socket wrench unless you have an extension for your ratchet. Removing the entire plastic agitator assembly is easy when tugging from below.

This next part may note be needed, but: Once you have the assembly out put it on the floor and stand on it. To remove the free moving part of the agitator, grab the fins and give it a good tug or two to free it from the lower assembly. It may take a bit of effort. Remove the inards, replace the four dogs, and reassemble.

It was *really* easy to do...and certainly a lot cheaper than having someone come out or, as we thought we were headed, to replace the washer.
