I have a Samsung HCL4715W 47 in. Rear Projection Television. All of a sudden I have this problem with a red flickering on the screen. If I peek through the back of the tv into the vents I can see a red flickering. Is my TV hosed? Thanks for any help Justin
Sounds like you have an intermitant overdrive situation on the red CRT. This could be caused by a bad component on the Red CRT board, an intermittantly shorting CRT or the circuitry in the main board. You should not run it until the problem is resolved as you could damage the CRT if it is not already bad. This is something that unless you are a qualified tech you are not going to have any success resolving. It should not be very hard for a good tech to diagnose the problem. Costs will depend on the part which is bad. If it is the red CRT it probably is not worth fixing, but it could be a 50 cent capacitor. Certainly worth the cost of a service call. Good luck.

Had a red flicker and horizontal red lines across the screen after it warmed up. Replaced Red Crt, no effect, replaced Flyback transformer and HV distributor. When I turned it back on, the new Red CRT cracked and leaked fluid down to the cathode and pins. I put the old CRT in, and it seems to operate, but red is blurry, convergence is out, and it still flickers. Running out of patience with this. Any ideas. Have a meter, an ocilloscope even, but no more ideas. I'd really like to have a solid idea about what is faulty before ordering more new parts. I'd probably have called a tech if there was anyone to service it that didn't charge $500 just to look at it.
