I bought a brand new Yamaha clavinova CLP-440 last July (2011), and have been happy with the sound quality , appearance and all.
I noticed an issue with it since last two days. When I turned on the piano, the display came on, but the sound did not come. I tried it with the head phone plugged in and without, but abosolutely no sound. Tried turning it off and on a few times. This did not help either. After 5-10 minutes, the sound came back and the piano started to function normally.
This happened again last night. I was playing the piano, and the sound has gone completely with a click noise. I waited there without tampering with anything, and it came back after few minutes. There was no problem after that. Any idea why this is happening. The instrument is still under guarantee. I don't know whether to raise a support call with Yamaha at this point as it happened only twice. I came across this site while searching issues for yamaha digital pianos, and I thought I would ask here.
Thanks
It sounds like you have a part overheating and failing, then cooling off and starting again. i would take it into the nearest Yamaha repair facility or contact your local authorized repair to come take a look before it goes out of warranty.
The control panel hinges upwards and you have to move the keybed back a bit to get at the jack. All the screws on the bottom for the keybed. I'm not sure where the ones for the control panel are.

There are a number of fuses on the main power board ( by transformer ) the sizes differ depending on the country of use but are clearly marked on the board.
REMEMBER TO UNPLUG FROM THE MAINS BEFORE OPENING - if in doubt seek the advice of a qualified electrician
The principal to replace your contact strip will require one further step to that shown here where the customer has replaced the felts.
When you have the keybed out you will see the contact strip part 220. This is held in place behind the circuit boards. Remove boards, replace strip and reassemble.
It might be worth considering felts whilst you have the keyboard in bits as these wear out.

hi... Your L/R jacks in the back need to connect to the "line-in" connector on your sound card. I think the jacks on the Clav are 1/4 inch. Go to Radio shack and ask for an adapter that will take two 1/4 inch plugs/cable and convert it to a 1/8 inch stereo plug. The Midi connects From (keyboard) To (soundcard) Cables are available at any music store
Hi ... There are flexible cables that connect the keys to the main electronics. The connectors for those cables sometimes age poorly.. It is fixable. But dont "get taken" on a repair. If it's just resoldering a few points,it shouldnt be more than $100.00 to fix
