When i drill with my 18volt cordless, and the bit catches it makes an awful grinding noise inside the drill, its not the adjustable clutch set low. its set on drill?

Your speed switch is between gears, pull the trigger lightly and slide the speed switch back and fourth until it is fully engaged. Also turn the clutch setting all the way down then all the way back to lock it is not uncommon for them to get dodgy.

Here is a download for the manual you want.

http://toolnet.dewalt.com/Toolnet/OMrepos/00A5C2051109D14300800003A4D6051F.pdf

You could download to a cd or print it out. Whatever is best for your workshop.

Diagram for rebuilding DeWalt DC988

Yes.

Go to dewaltservicenet.com and look up your model. (Hint: Press the "Go" button on the screen not the Enter button on your keyboard to submit your model in the field). Make sure you have your type number available.

If your transmission is in a million pieces I can help you get it back together. There is no diagram for the transmissions.
