Okay, I posted about the volume button, I'm just going to ask, does anyone know how to take apart the player? I am trying to pry it open but I really don't want to bust the thing.
For my experience, opening the Rio was very hard following Skullmaster's instructions. Even after popping the eight tabs away from their slots, the backside would not come fully off and I was unable to fix the volume. Now, after an hour and a half of aggravation, I'm still without volume controls and must leave the topside exposed to turn on the power.
Obviously blanestone is an idiot for answering the question like he did. I was able to open my CE2100 easily without damage. Needed: small screwdriver (jewelry size) Gently pry off the chrome top plastic that surrounds the buttons. There are plastic hooks on both ends and it will just pop off. Then very carefully pry the bottom up a 1/32 inch and look in to see the metal tabs holding the top to the bottom. Pry the tab gently toward you bending it back slightly and continue this on both sids and the top. There are eight tabs total. To reassemble, slightly bend the tabs straight. The cover and the chrome section should just snap back in. I had it apart with absolutly no knowledge of the player within five minutes. My volume know fell out too.
Manufacturers puposely make these items hard to get into so that people who don't know what they're doing keep out. So it's either bite the bullet and try it yourself or take it someone who knows what he's doing. The choice is yours. If prying it apart worries you that much then the easy answer is don't.
