UGGH! this is soo frustrating, i things that plug in should never have enough power to do damage to themselves, why couldent there be like a breaker, or a fuse to solve this issue. i used to get the check speakers thing after alittle spark action. but now all i get is a very loud series of three clicks coming from the unit, not the speakers. just like the one you normally hear, but much louder, and not as nice sounding. why cant anyone be less vague on a simple fix. who said that it could be backwards capacitors? dont they come the right way, what couldave suddenly made them become backwards after they worked fine? I just need some help, and i ramble when im frustrated, thanks anyone.

I have the same problem... I read that it can be a capacitor issue, they are on backwards. I just dropped mine off with the repair guy today... Does anyone know of a fix? Mine first had an electrical zap, then smoked, now CHCK SPEAKERS then off, and on standby...

I have a DVD player, VCR player, TV all attached to an RCA RT2250 audio/video receiver. All was just fine until 2 days ago when the DVD player would no longer give sound and icons of the speaker system...

It's possibly only needs soldering of the voltage regulators. they are on the main circuit board heat sink (middle of the receiver and can be accessed by the bottom panel.

Power but no sound

hook up the antenna at the back and try to tune-in to your favorite radio station.
read the description at the back of your rca rt2250, how to connect your antenna.
connect it properly and raise up the antenna, put it where the signal is good.

RCA RT2250 consistant shutting off in Satalite mode.

Mine will always just turn off every minute or so after a hard shut down(ex: power outtage). I have to turn it back on and then hold the set button for a few seconds, then it stays on, until i turn it off manually, since the remote won't turn it off.

RCA RT2280/RT2250 RECEIVER

If you have speaker wires that have strands, you may be getting a short if one small strand is shorting across the terminals, or a poor connection. Check carefully, perhaps even by disconnecting and reconnecting the wires. Also check for proper polarity - positive to positive, negative to negative. (unlikely since it just started). You can also get a new set of wires and check speakers one at a time to see if it goes away. or get another speaker that works and then replace each one with that speaker in turn to see if it resolves it. Good luck
