How to fix a Bugaboo Handle Locking Mechanism

If you are not the handyperson type, take these instructions to you local bicycle mechanic or small engineering shop.

The cause of the Bugaboo handle fault is due to two small plastic pins shearing off a plastic disk inside the plastic hub. This disk activates two metal locking rods. Why Bugaboo uses a plastic disk for this critical component is beyond me. The disk’s two plastic pins move the locking rods in and out of the inner hub engaging and disengaging the outer hub. You need to either repair the disk by drilling out the pin stumps and finding a metal screw you can fit / glue in or replace with a new metal disk fabricated to last a lifetime.

clip_image002.jpg
The lock mechanism is very simple; a wire rod rotates the plastic disk that moves the lock pins. Before replacing the disk, check the hubs for wear. If too badly worn or damaged you will have too much movement in the locked position. Both the Frog and Cameleon use the same plastic hubs so you can find an old frame and salvage replacement hubs. A single aluminum rivet holds them and this is easily drilled out.

1/ Remove the domed star lock. This is the hardest part of the job and most people try to lever this off in the hope of reusing. The first problem is you mark or damage the surrounding plastic, the second is the star lock isn’t intended to be reused and will not hold as well. It is best to find a new replacement - normally sourced from a hardware store on indent.

The quickest way to remove a domed star lock is to carefully cut a slot in the dome with an angle grinder and then use a large screwdriver to gently prise up one side high enough so you can fit a second screwdriver underneath without marking the plastic. Note. The walls of the aluminum shaft the hub rotates on are thin and easily distorted, make sure you only lever the domed star lock and not the shaft. Use the first screwdriver to support the second screwdriver as per photo.

Note it is best to open and repair one side at a time, so the moving and flexing one side of the handle does not dislodge parts in the other side. The hub and disks are mirrors of each other and not interchangeable. The side with the brake lever is left; the Bugaboo parts will have an “L” after their serial numbers.

clip_image006.jpg

2/ Reassemble handle locking hub and check operation. If the wire rods seem to be out of position, loosen the top plastic fittings where the handle extends from by removing the small self-tapping screws and wiggle things into alignment. (I use a small amount of the grease used for taps to give a smoother action) If all is working well fit the new star dome on the hub shaft and tap home. To protect the dome finish I use a large socket from my socket set and an old rubber washer from a toilet cistern. Repeat operation on the other side.

I have available kits with (left & right) laser cut metal disks with stainless steel pins and two new star dome locks. Cost is $150 New Zealand plus shipping. If you would like a set, my contact email address is below.

Have an older style XTS boogie 2 pram. Got it second hand and can't remember how to fold the chasi down. please help! I've pulled the red button thing on the right hand hinge but nothing...

Hi,

Gosh, this is testing my memory! I believe that there is a black lever on the handle bar. This is on the left hand side. Place your hands in the normal pushing position, then slide your hand down and following the natural curve and underneath where the hood sits there should be a lever type thing (can't think of a better way to describe it!). Press this lever down, then release the red button on the right hand side, then push the handle toward the floor, that should do it.

Hope this helps.

How do i fold a bebecar stylo pram

First, make sure that the adjustable-height handle is in one of the middle positions. Find the twist-grip in the middle of the handle, press the button and turn the collar in the direction of the arrow. The chassis should start to close. Next, find the secondary lock, on the right hand side, and press down on that and lift the handle bar. Keep pushing the handle forward until the chassis is fully folded.

How do you put chicco travel system pushchair down

Hi,

This is relatively straight forward.
Stand behind the pram, pull both triggers on the handles, and then pull the handle loop at the back of the pram which will then enable you to push the pram dowards and fold.
Practice a few times and you will be perfect within a very short time.

I hope this helps.

How do you open a bugaboo frog pram stroller

Hi,

To open the Frog, follow the steps below:

Stand behind the folded stroller, ensuring the handle is on the top of the stroller.
Bend down and place your hands on the handle bar, DONT lift the pram, make sure it stays on the floor.
Push the white button on the inside of the left hand side of the handle bar.
Pull both triggers (located inside of the handle bar) toward you and lift the handle up.
Stand up-right, and place your foot onto the bottom of the two axles which you can see in front of you (make sure that you have your foot on the axle which connects the two small swivel wheels).
Whilst you are standing, with your hands on the handle bar and your foot on the axle, push the axle out with your foot away from you and slightly upwards. This should open the chassis up-right. Please note that the chassis will appear to be unstable and move, this will stop the minute that you click on your carseat/carrycot or seat unit.
I hope this helps.

How do you fit the ventura plus car seat onto the silver cross 3d pram?

Hi,

This is a little difficult to explain in text, but here goes..

Recline the seat unit to it's lowest position.
On the arm rests of the pram, there is a piece of fabric covering each arm, these are attached via press studs, undo these and fold them backwards onto the seat area.
This will reveal a plastic hook underneath, these are folded down and need to be raised upwards.
Next, get the Ventura carseat and ensure that the handle is in the carrying postition (i.e facing upwards). On the base of the carseat at the back (directly underneath babys head) there is a distinct cut out shape that will fit snugly onto the bumper bar of the pram, place the carseat on top of the pram (so it is positioned on the seat facing you) and push it down gently. If this is the first time that you have done this, the material may be quite plumped up so you may need to push a little harder.
At the base of the carseat handle either side, there is a button (this is used to adjust the handle position) push these buttons down at the same time and move the handle backwards (away from you) until the handle makes an audible 'click', this means that this has now secured onto the plastic hooks that you first exposed on the arms of the pram.

This should now be securely fastened onto the pram.
I would also suggest that you visit this website as per the link below and download the user manual for the 3D so that you have this is picture format in front of you.

I hope this helps.

How do i fold down the mutsy urban rider pushchair

Hi,

To fold the Mutsy Urban follow these steps:

Stand slightly to the left of the pram, but have the handle bar (with button depressed) in your right hand. Have your left hand on the black cuff (on the left hand leg of the chassis)
In one movement, push in the button on the handle (with your right hand) and move downwards, whilst pulling the cuff upwards (with your left hand). Do this quite firmly and the pram will then collapse. Make sure that the handle is in the lowest position after folding, ensuring that the pram is as small as possible.

I hope this helps.

I cannot close milano stroller

Above the wheels at the rear of pram there are small levers that you must activate. I'm pretty sure you press the left one first (do not need to hold down) then hold down the opposite side's lever and push forward and down on the handle of the pram. If this doesn't work try pressing the levers in the opposite way first. Originally the pram would have had stickers "1" and "2" on the levers to dirict you how to fold. If in Oz look up Karisles on google and follow the prompts to download instruction manual.

Folding Quinny speedi Sx Stroller

In the middle of the underneath of the pushing handle, below where the hand brake lever is there should be a button. If there is, this is what you do.
1) put the foot brake on so the rear wheels wont turn.
2) unclip the clips on the frame that allow you to adjust the height of the pushing handle, they open up, and leave them open, like this the handle you push the buggy with should slide up and down.
3) pull this handle out to its tallest position
4) Hold the handle and press the button mentioned at the start in and hold it in
5) Then quite quickly push the handle down as though you were either pushing it to lower its pushing height, or shoving it away in a temper. It needs to be a firm and quick movement.

Ta da!! After a couple of tries it should click and fold up.

I hope this helps.

2nd hand BEBEcar Adventure raider AT+

Hi, I have just bought second hand the exact same pram. You have to push in the red button in the middle of the handle, then turn the handle down towards the floor. By putting a little pressure on it it should now start to fold down. Hope this helps.

I have my own dilemma though. When the carry cot is on as a forward facing pram, does the seat unit come off that you use for the buggy?
