We just bought a Toshiba SD-V295KU DVD/video player and are trying to connect it to our Toshiba 27DF46 TV. There is no outside cable or antennae. The antennae we have sits on top of the TV and is connected to it by a coaxial cable. We have the audio/video cable connected by appropriate colors, with the OUT on the DVD side and the IN on the TV side. There is also a S-video cable connecting the TV and the VCR. We are unable to get the picture from the DVD or video on the TV, even though we have it on Channel 3. We do still get the local channels on the TV. What else should we do? (There is no co-axial port on the DVD player).
I had a Phillips VCR/ DVD combo connected to an Emerson TV via RCA cables, with the TV connected to Satellite Cable service (no box, just cable in the wall.) When I moved, I connected the TV and DVD/ VCR exactly the same way but without the satellite cable and nothing works. The channels are set and the cables are connected properly. Neither component will work with my other TV or DVD player (which are working together fine, TV was connected directly to the cable box in the old house.) They're almost brand new, but I'm ready to use them for target practice...

Oh man dont shoot your stuff instead use your remote and go to your menu and select your input. You tv is looking at your coaxial input but you can select which input you want. 1, 2 front back whatever you need. channell 3 or 4 has nothing to do with connecting up your dvd if you connect and choose the front connection in your menu.

The SD-V295KU has no tuner. You will need to connect it to a set top tuner, a cable or satellite receiver box. One of the digital-to-analog converters would work for OTA programs from a digital station. The basic ones that were available with the government coupon give SD output; this is sufficient since composite video is limited to SD.
Then connect the composite (audio and video) out from that box to the DVD/VCR composite in (the rightmost jacks). Then set the channel on the box and record content on Line 1 (Press Input Select on the DVD/VCR's remote to get to that input after you set the recording speed.)
Most TVs do not have a composite out option so the tuner in the TV can't be used to feed the program to the DVD/VCR.
The yellow pin is for video, while the white and red pin are for audio left and right.
So, your wires will be connected to video and audio "OUT" from your player and connected to "IN" respectively on your TV.
That's how it gos. Its a input and output law. The Player will be sending out the pictures and sounds (OUT) and the TV will be receiving from the other end (IN).
Its as simple is that. But if there is still no picture, then cross check your video wire (yellow), maybe its bad.
This unit does not have a TV tuner built in. It can record only from a video/audio source such as a satellite receiver or cable box. That's why you can't find anything in the manual about programming a channel. It doesn't offer that capability.
Not the answer you were looking for, but that's what they give you. The only solution I can offer is to keep your old VCR or pick one up at a thrift shop, and use it as the signal source. Program it to come on at the desired time on the channel you want, and use its video/audio outputs as the source for your recorder. Program the recorder to start at the same time.
If you have the original remote controller, try to switch inputs. It must be on the f-connection ( coaxial) at the moment. You need to switch it to RCA or S-Video Inputs.
You did not say if you have connected the video out on the surround system to the video in on the tv. If not connect it and select that input on the tv.
