No sound on Panasonic PV-DV402 Camcorder

It was functioning properly but now, there is no sound on playback on camcorder, on TV, or on computer. Even tapes that did have sound no longer have sound when using camcorder. Could it be one of the hundred functions on menu that is in the wrong position or a switch or a fix available for internal mechanisms? Thx for your help!

SOURCE: Panasonic PV-DV402 with Windows Vista

That is the sad truth about Vista, manufacturers are either slow at providing support for older equipement or ignoring them altogether. Panasonic has not upgraded the software for that camera since 2003. You best solution would be to create a second partition on your computer and install Windows XP in a dual boot configuration, but that would cause problems as your should do it the other way around (install XP then Vista). Or you could buy a cheap XP computer (a used one or value one). Or you could upgrade to a newer camera.

Although you may luck out downloading software for a newer camera from panasonic, maybe this driver might work: ftp://ftp.panasonic.com/pub/Panasonic/Drivers/capture/ComMass.zip

Does the camera have firewire? Did you try connecting it that was?

You need 3 cables Yellow, (Video) + Red & White, (Audio L&R Stereo) Or Mini-DIN, for SVHS Video cable, this is ONLY for Video, Audio, is still Red & White. Or Component, where you have 3 Video Sockets, cables, Green, Red, Blue, All video, all color to color, both ends, and again Red & White for Audio. Sometimes there is FireWire, or HDMI you need a cable and the PC MUST also be equipped, You need software and drivers for FireWire, of HDMI..

My panasonic vhsc camcorder will playback video and sound but it will not record sound what is wrong?

Sounds like the tape particles have stuck to the sound heads, just buy a head cleaner for camera, run it on record mode for 25 seconds max ok.

Built-in microphone does seem to work

The only way to really tell if the buit in mic. is bad is to replace the mic or plug another one in the external mic. jack. Also use the input (red and white) RCA jacks and input a signal from a stereo or TV into it and record. If still no sound then its probably Bad capacitors in the sound processor Printed Circuit board. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but mostly all of older camcorders suffer from this breakdown fault. Good luck
