Can't see video files on PC

Hi Hope you can help! Just got the camera and have taken still and video footage. I have backed up the still photos to my PC but can't "see" the video files to back these up also. Do I need additional software loaded on my PC to do this maybe and if so can you let me know what software and where i could get it? Or is there an entirely different solution? Thank you for any help you can give me Regards Barry

You're camera shoots movies in MPEG4 format so basically any program which plays MPEG4 will do the job. If you still have the CD which came with the camera it has Nero Vision Express 3 software which will need installing. Your PC will then recogbize the movie files. Don't forget the movie files will be in a different folder on the memory card and they be called something like M4V00101.MP4 M4V00102.MP4 etc. The movie quality isn't the best so don't get your hopes up. I thought it was a mobile phone when I first saw one of these :-) BMW

Hi am wanting to put some footage from panasonic sdr h40 onto computer

Your Panasonic camera has a USB port on it as associated by the accompanying cable that plugs into it and has a USB end on the other cable. Note that if your videos are on the SD card, you can take it out and put in your computer via a SD adaptor to USB. The hard drive files though are a little more tricky... you have to have the camera being fed by the AC adaptor instead of the battery.. (it looks like the battery and plugs into its hole on the bottom with a cable hangiong out that plugs into the battery charger.. You will not be able to transfer the files unless you have this power configuration.. this is to keep the transfer from being disrupted by running out of battery power. The files are MOD files which are MPEG2 files just renemed. You can rename them to MPG instead of MOD once you copy to the computer. The USB connection forces the PC to make a drive letter for the hard drive in the camera. I hope that helps out

Than ks!

I want to copy video footage from the tape to the sd card.

Hi!
You cannot transfer the video from Mini-DV to SD card within your camera as your camcorder does not have this feature. If your purpose for finding this function is to transfer your footage to your computer, you may try using the firewire port in your camera to connect it to your pc.
If you need help with the firewire connection, feel free to post a follow up.
Hope this helps!

JVC CAMCORDER GZ-HD7U

You CAN NOT use the Firewire to capture your footage like DV or HDV camcorders. I too Have a macbook pro and use FCPS2 to edit my footage. If you want to get the footage off of the HD7u, you'll have to connect via USB2.0 and download the .TOD files and use a program to convert them. I use MPEGStreamclip. It will work with the .TOD files and convert them to a format that iMovie or FInal Cut will understand. If this is not for professional work you'll probably be fine converting the footage to the HDV standard or DV standard and not have to render in FCP to edit the footage.
Caution... MPEG2 codec may be needed. If you have FCP or have Quicktime pro, you probably already have it other wise you can purchase it from apple for $29.99 or if you try real hard (not to hard) you can probably find it on a torrent for free.
I hope this helps your situation

Trying to play off-camera stored video, when replaced onto SD card in camera

Did you change the file name on the original video? Are you able to put the video back onto the camera? If you changed the file name, you can't put it back onto the camera. It also needs to be in AVI format which is the video format that the camera records in.

Hope this helps!

Sanyo HD1000 exacti

Hello there.

At a first guess, i would say you have the video quality settings on the camera too high. These new cameras and video recorders can store very high definition images and at the highest setting a laptop will have trouble playing the footage back without skipping or artifacting.

I would recommend checking the camera settings and lowering the resolution to something more manageable.

If you are unsure of this please write back.

Hope this helps.

I have a Panasonic hdc-dx1. I have taken camera footage but cannot transfer this footage onto the computer... HELP. It is an assignment due on Thursday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello from Italy!
You need to install on your PC an AVCHD codec and a software in order to read the disk content. Nero 8 (with AVCHD plug in) can do it. I usually read the *.M2TS files with NeroVision, convert them with Canopus AVCHD converter and edit with Canopus Edius. That's all.
