I have 2 printers and both suffer the same problem, one minute working fine and then one of the colors stops working - tried all the usual cleaning cycles but have come to the conclusion that the ink is not being fed through the little tubes, I pulled the printer to pieces and could see the ink moving in the tubes but the color not working also appeared to have a lot of air in the tube - how to flush or fill the tubes or to fix the problem? How does the ink actually get to the print heads somewhat uphill from the feed at the bottom of the cartridge?.I have tried all new cartridges - no change - Brother service people said new print heads will fix it??? only somehow I dont believe this unless the print heads also have some way of drawing the ink from the cartridges. hope you can help
SOURCE: New ink cartridges not printing
there are 4 possibilities here.
1) the ink cartridge although appearing OK may have dried out or be faulty. If you have just purchased the cartridge take it back to the place of purchase for an exchange/refund.
2) not all the packaging has been completely removed. To check this remove the cartridge from the printer & make sure that ther is no plastic wrapping still on the cartridge.
3) the print nozzle is blocked. to check this go to control panel: printers & faxes right click on your printer then select properties. select the maintanence tab then do a nozzle check test. If the black does not print try selecting the clean & then deep clean items, If this still does not work remove the cartridges from the print head & see if using a soft lint free cloth you can remove any ink build up fom both the print side & the cartridge side of the print head. If this still does not work number 4 will apply.
4) your print head has failed. If u have warranty means better replace it..

SOURCE: Brother MFC 240C alignment problems
I have figured it out! I have a Brother MFC 240CN and I was having the same alignment problem and I followed the instructions from the printer prompt as well as the manual and it does not work.
So, this is what I did. I ran the alignment test print, then when it asked if it matches, I would say "No". And then I would pick number "8" to be the one that most closely matched "0" regardless if it did or not. I did this for the 600 and 1200dpi. Then when I ran the alignment test print again, it looked better! So I repeated it again and again picking "8" each time and it looked better with every test print. After about 4 or 5 tries, it looked normal again!
I hope everyone else with this problem will see this response and I hope it works too. I was getting so frustrated with this problem. Now I don't have to get it serviced or buy a new printer!
