The last couple of times the dishwasher was usd it took several hour to complete the normal cylce. Everything seems to wok OK it just takes a long time to complete.

Initially, does your model have "JetDry" feature? If yes, have you tried that?
Some LG models have been known to really have a Long wash cycle ~3 hours. If your unit is longer than the usual, then their could possible be issues with the blower/heater dryer. Although low incoming water pressure could also affect if the unit will not fill up with water on the expected length of time it is supposed to.

This sounds like the electronic timer in the circutry control board , if you still have the warranty you should use that , otherwise you will need an electronic tech, that works on these new electronic controlled appliances
it definately needs to be check out by a pro to determine what is happening and what is not and some test that require knowledge of electronic and mechanical devices
if this is something you can do then it needs tests done and a service manual that discribes the electronic and electrical circutry as wel as the plumming functions

How long did it usually take to finish? Do you know which part of the cycle is taking a long time? Like when it starts when you hear it running. How long have you owned the unit? Once I have more information I can assist you further.

When the dishwasher starts the cycle it sounds like it starts then stops then starts again. It just keeps stopping and starting at the begining of the cycle. The dishwasher is about 2 years old.
Will not turn off when cycle completed, has ran for 10 hours before being unplugged.
