My sub woffer is making a crackling sound but still putting out great bass. When I turn on my system on I hear a buzzing crackling sound but the sub still works and has great sound,a lot of bass. The buzz continues through the music. Can this be fixed by me? Thanks in advance.

Hello
Check all the input connections to the sub for any loose contact.

    Hello
If there is no loose contact to connections, the fault, crakcing noise must be due to some disc ceramic capacitors on the filtering board of the amp. This boad can be located inside the woofer cabin. Check it. Take it oug and check. You must have to open the woofer to access this board. All sockets out to other speakers will emerge from this board. Check whether there is any loose solderings to these sockets.

Sub started to crackle and now is not working

Sounds like you may have a blown (open) speaker. Remove the speaker and measure the DC resistance if you have a ohmmeter. Should read a little under the rated impedance (4 ohms). No ohmmeter handy? Touch a 9V battery across the speaker terminals, and you should hear a pop from the speaker. No pop then you have a bad speaker. Also the speaker should move freely when you push on it. Don't push the dust cover (the dome in the center) unless you like that dented look! If the speaker is indeed bad and you can't get an OEM (P/N: 363389-001) then an aftermarket speaker should (in most cases) work fine. Just make sure it is a 12", 4 ohms and rated at 250W RMS or greater. May actually be lower than 250W but better higher than lower. Good luck!

My legacy 12 inch subs are making a crackling sound what can do?

Hi rodneybarton

The problem of your unit may be its amplifier. You need to open the box and inside of it, there is a component that attached on the heatsink you need to replace that one. or better send your unit to qualified technician.

First off, you need to disconnect your battery immediately.. The reason for the feed back is you have a hot wire touching ground somewhere....probably a large sub speaker cable.....What will happen is the power going from the amp to the speaker or from the head unit to the sub will come into contact with bare metal and feed that current back into the system through the isolated ground. This will either reduce sound, or when the power is high enough, turn from a low hum to a heavy crackle. now if it crackles with the bass, more than likely its in your sub/amp configuration....if its constant or completely random then it could be anywhere in the system. check for bare, broken, or exposed wire.

I have a wharfedale svp15 passive loudspeaker. The subwoofer has started crackling and popping at low volumes and has no deep bass. At high volumes it sounds great as usual and can't tell if the crackling...

Information I find online says it an Active Subwoofer, so that introduces its own amp as a possible source of the symptom. If there is another version of this model that's passive, all the more reason to believe the amp is the problem because passive speakers don't spontaneously emit sounds.

If there was a physical reason for the crackling I would think more power would make it worse or blow it up.

A poor sub signal cable connection might explain low current anomalies if random noises are entering the signal path.

Make sure the signal, speaker and power cables are not aligned parallel and close to each other.

I have a few problems. i have 2 amps and 4 subs. first problem is when i connect one amp to my speakers it just hisses and crackles. this never happened before. when i turn up the gain to try and get...

The first amp, sounds like there is straight power going through the gain instead of it being limited. The second amp...hook the other subs up to it and see if it sounds ok. If so, then the subs are messed up. If it sounds the same, make sure the subs are connected correctly.

I can hear voice out of my subs but they want through out bass

Check to make sure your amplifier is set to LOW PASS FILTER, not HIGH PASS. Make sure your settings on your head unit are set for full range, meaning 0 balance/fader.
Good luck!
