Dropped my Nikon D40x, Pictures dark, won't let me go into manual settings.

I recently dropped my Nikon D40X from a fairly good height, nothing is damaged from my understanding, the lens is intact, shutter is perfectly fine, but I realized afterwards every single one of my photo's that I try to take, turns out EXTREMELY dark! I read some articles and it said to reset the camera settings, well when I do it, it dosen't really affect anything, and I try to go into manual mode to change the aperture and the shutter, and it won't let me change anything, it stays in auto.

Does anybody know a solution, or solution(s) that I can try to fix my camera by myself? Or would I have to take it in to get looked at?

You will need to send it to Nikon to get the camera checked out - there is nothing user-serviceable that you can do.
Basically, you have broken it. Take more care with your expensive toys... use the strap, buy a silicone jacket, etc.

I recently dropped my nikon D40X and now every picture on every setting Is very dark. I also get error message to press shutter again sometimes.

Wife dropped nikon d40x on concrete...will only shoot on manual. Lens will not autofocus.

Lens motor(inside the lens) could be damaged already. The D40x focusing system is dependent on the lens, just like any other Nikon Dx camera except for the ones that has built-in motor to its body, e.g. D90, D7000. Try a different lens, most likely it should work

Dropped my nikon d40x and now shutter feels like its slow and pictures are blurred. Is repair possible and how much

unscrew the 8 screw at the buttom of your camera. take the batt out. and unscrew the 2 remaining screw. take the cover off and youwill see a red plastic wheel. rotate the wheel back and fourth, put the battery back and hold it press it so the camera will have power turn the camera on and press the button while moving the red wheel and it will take pictures and you solve your problem.

Dark exposure

Check your ISO setting...should be between 100 to 400 for normal pictures.Did you change your exposure compensation setting to something other than "0"? Is the aperture ring on the lens set to the "A" position?

Dropped the nikon d40x and the lence doesn't want to move in or out sincenikon d40x lens not working since, is it broken??

The camera body or the lens (or both) have been damaged. You could try a different lens (if available) to determine which has failed. Either way, one or the other will likely require repair (or replacement).

Pictures are coming out dark and often can't get it to focus

Having gone over a year without a response to my query, I assume lowering the ISO took care of the grain problem.

Dark monitor

Since the D40X is an SLR, (single lens reflex), it is not possible to use the LCD monitor to frame your pictures before they are taken.

To view what your images look like after you have taken them, you need to use the 'monitor/play' button marked with a rectangular box
