OK, so with more troubleshooting, I was able to eliminate the problem with my DE925. It was actually the Vizio HDTV that was causing the problem, as I decided to route the optical audio from my DVD and PS3 directly to the same TOSLINK port on the DE925 and auto-decode worked. It was not the fiber-op cables either. This HDTV was a less-expensive 720p 32" model anyway, so I am not too concerned with the optical out working on it as I can run up to four TOSLINK connections in to the receiver.

PCM 48 means pulse code modulation at 48kHz. Your receiver is decoding digital information and displaying what format it is, and it's frequency. That is normal.

Go to Manual program and keep the decoder field on Auto Mode.

Those dots are BRAIL format used by the blind - you will need to buy a game guide to decode the meaning of the dots - OR you can do it yourself by looking for a brail decoder:

The software technology used to decoded the format used by DVD's is owned, and has to be purchased in order to decode and playback the content. Hardware manufactures already have paid for this license for your "on-the-shelf-dvd player". You have another option... to download a DVD Player that includes a pre-licensed decoder.

Then, open the program called "Media Player Classic" that the mentioned codec pack will install.

What type of DVD player do you have? I had the same problem with my Sony bdp-s1 bluray player. You might have to go into your menu on your player and set it up to decode the 5.1 signal.
